  • Our 3,300 square foot home features 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms and is on 4 acres located 15 miles (20 minutes) from downtown Durango at the base of the magnificent La Plata Mountains, and adjacent to the La Plata River. The adjacent river and the proximity to the backcountry richness of La Plata Canyon are unparalleled for their recreational diversity and extraordinary vistas. Fishing, hiking, backcountry skiing, four-wheeling and too many other outdoor pursuits to name are right out the back door of this exceptional property.

    The West is all about open spaces meeting spectacular mountain vistas. This Colorado cabin gives you both the room to roam and breathe in the fresh mountain air, and a proximity to area amenities that offers almost unbelievable convenience given the home’s amazing rural setting. Many homes offer the accouterments of the western lifestyle with their interior and log appointed decor. This home completes the package and is the genuine article of western living.

    The house features a generously equipped gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances and 2 living spaces making it perfect for multiple families and also features a pool table, tons of outdoor space and gas BBQ Grill. Super fast Starlink was recently installed.

    Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.

Lovely location

A large well-stocked house - perfect for a family or friends gathering. The house was clean and any questions we had were promptly answered. We had a great time and would definitely stay again!

Great place to stay!

This home was perfect for our family gathering. Plenty of space to spread out and still have private space for each family. The location is beautiful and is convenient to Durango and all of it's offerings. We would stay again.

Pleasant Mountain Getaway

Very nice big space. We had two families get together and we enjoyed the many bedrooms and bathrooms. The communal spaces were well furnished and enjoyable to gather in. The kitchen was well equiped and we had an easy time using the grill. The mountain location was beautiful and a nice break from the heat. I can easily recommend this place to others.

The cabin was beautiful, I can say the pictures do not do it justice at all. The areas was really beautiful too. Rental Collective personnel were awesome, friendly and always happy to help. The reason why its not 5 stars is because the showers in two bathrooms did not have water pressure, and the outlets did not work even after we did the "reset" button. Other than that it was perfect for our family reunion. Thank you!!!

Family get together

Loved the house. It was clean, great kitchen set-up, and a great location. We had one major issue--no hot water in the middle upstairs bathroom.

Lovely location and excellent Cabin for big family

Location was great with scenic views around. Cabin was awesome and spacious. Only drawback was we saw a lot of flies inside the bathroom and bedroom floors. But this was notified to us even before we arrived and they offered to clean the house once again. Overall we had awonderful experience.

Beautiful property and the mountains were breathtaking. My only issue (and this was my fault for not noticing when I booked) was the lack of air conditioning. I understand these higher elevation homes dont require A/C but better fans should be installed to circulate air. House was very warm but most of the time we weren't inside. Colorado was amazing and we will be back. Thank you for a great place to stay during our vacation.

Enjoyed it very much, house was wonderful. I would have liked to have had a master bedroom downstairs. Bathroom plugs wouldn't work, even after trying the reset. It did not slow us down as we are very adaptable. Would recommend and stay again.

Colorado vacation

Had a great time! Property was very accurately described. We had an issue with the hot water upstairs but it was addressed quickly. The altitude was a problem for some of us coming from Florida and Texas. The kitchen was great and well stocked! Would suggest you make the downstairs bedroom more adult friendly so older guests don’t have to climb the stairs. All in all a great place for large families.

Hesperus hideaway

Upon arrival at this mountain property, all 8 of us were saying WOW!!! This is AWESOME! The inside of the home was as pictured and even more amazing as we went from room to room. The atrium is just a beautiful add to the rest of the home. The pool table saw lots of fun action. Outside games were played in the large side yard. And the BBQ got some fun use as well. All around.....10+++++

The grandkids loved the lofts in the bedrooms!The reasons we’re not giving all 5s are: no air conditioning and not all windows worked well; weak WIFI; and confusing light switches. Being in our mid 70s, a grab bar in the master bath would have been very helpful.

Short but sweet stay

House is in beautiful, serene location. Well laid out with large kitchen, deck, and front lounge area. Bedrooms are spacious. Marked and steep trail down to river for those brave enough to try it. Kitchen had plenty of utensils, two dishwashers, and all appliances but could use a few more basics (salt, sugar, etc) for short stay guests. One of the bathrooms had intermittent hot water during our stay. Was not a big deal and so did not communicate or expect to have it fixed during our stay. Highly recommend the house for location and serenity.

Durango getaway

Everything was great, except it was a little warm and the yard hasn’t been mowed all year. They said it was a short walk to the river you couldn’t get through. It was so overgrown and trees had falling in the path. My husband went through and cleared it.

Picture’s don’t do it justice!

The property has amazing views! There were 11 of us and everyone had plenty of room. The path to the creek is overgrown and a little treacherous, but everyone (but me) participated in the adventure. A few of the outdoor furniture pieces could be replaced and I recommend some kind of room deodorizer for when the place sits empty for awhile. Manager was aware of two other issues we were concerned about. We would definitely return!

Hesperus House

Overall, a very enjoyable weekend with kids & grandkids. Grandkids loved the house & wanted to stay forever! Adequate indoor & outdoor space for our group. Several does with new fawns was the highlight Saturday morning. A couple of things that were not so great: door out to the deck is very warped & difficult to open & close, upstairs far bedroom window was hanging on on 1 hinge, the kitchen floor was not clean, & the trail down to the river was so overgrown that we could not use it & the kids really wanted to hike down, trash bins were full so we had to pile on top. Just little things that could be fixed but we had a great time!

La Platta Canyon

The property and location was beautiful! We were disappointed that the yard was not taken care of so we couldn’t be outside playing games. We had issues with the cleanliness of the house, dead bugs, cobwebs and flies everywhere. There was a propane leak that took 2 1/2 days to find before it was fixed, which caused some inconvenience. The property did make that right and we were very grateful! The water heaters were off and are not all in plain sight. We had to search to find them and get them turned back on. There is plenty to do in the area and we took advantage of the recommendations of the property managers. The pictures are a little dated, and the property could use a few updates and coats of paint.
