"A great inn, in a good location. Staff were very friendly and the evening meal was excellent. The room was really nice with plenty of space, warm, clean and well equipped. Some noise carried through from other rooms but this wasn’t too much of a problem for our stay. Breakfast was ok but the full English breakfast fell a bit short of expectations. Overall would definitely recommend to stay at the Black Swan."

"The staff were amazing at this hotel—it is a basic hotel with a nice continental breakfast and a few hot items in the morning. it’s reasonably priced. we arrived in Darlington and unexpectedly, our other hotel did not work out. We had no hotel and were panicked! We were so glad that this hotel still had vacancy and was even able to accommodate the bed type that we wanted. "I stay here on a regular basis when I travel between Glasgow and the south. The hotel is a grand old building in a beautiful little hamlet off the A1 with lots of history. Due to this and the fact its family owned and not part of a huge chain, it’s a bit worn in places but it’s clean, comfortable and cosy with plenty of charm and quirks.. The staff are lovely, welcoming, very helpful and do their best to make your stay a good one. There’s a spa, a bar and a restaurant, the food is delicious...

"The staff were excellent especially the young man who checked us in, served dinner and served at the bar. I didn’t sleep much at all the first night because of the very hard mattress but after I asked if we could have an extra duvet on the bed then the second night I slept much better. Breakfast was plentiful but the service was very slow. We had dinner here both evenings and it was ok but again the service was very slow. We would stay here again."
