  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The host was extremely responsive and communication was excellent! The location was minutes from Ohio State University and basically everything you could want in terms of places to eat and things to do. We were only in town for one night, but the place was nice and included free parking that was just a very short walk away. I would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a place close to Ohio State or downtown Columbus.

Cute apartment in the short north

Apartment is accurately shown in the listing and the owner was phenomenal in their response when the door code did not work. But four things to note: 1. The bathroom is older and fixtures worn. Still works and was very clean. 2. Exterior entrance to the building is between two smoke shops and had homeless people blocking it when I arrived. Leaving in the morning I stepped through trash and broken glass from someone’s meal. 3. Owner has really considerate additions to the flat to help visitors deal with noise from the bustle and energy of the Short North. After you’re done enjoying the area for dinner and shopping, you have fans, earplugs and a white noise machine to help you leave it behind and get a good night’s sleep. 4. The free included parking is permit controlled on-street parking. If you are not comfortable leaving your vehicle on the street in the neighborhood (I wasn’t) there are several parking garages within a 10-min walk that are more secure (for a price).

Quick stay for a show at the Summit Music Hall

We stayed for one night while in town for a concert. The location was as described, communication was on point, it was very clean, was a fun atmosphere. The only challenge is parking but they gave good instructions to elimate any confusion .

Great location!!

Had a great time!! The loft was very unique and super clean. Communication was fabulous- very hospitable! Location was perfect- breweries, restaurants, and bars in walking distance. In all it was a wonderful experience!
