Our family of 2 couples and one single adult stayed here quite comfortably in mid July. We were pleased to find the kitchen fully equipped, including a coffee grinder and waffle maker. Sleeping arrangements provided us all with privacy as each couple or individual occupied a different level. The mattresses were quite comfy, even the sleep sofa in the basement gave us a fairly good night's sleep. But the gem of the house is its bird's eye view of the pond and the wrap around deck. That is where we ate our meals, read, and just relaxed. The hemlock forest gave us the feeling of being in the wilderness and screened us from the neighboring homes on either side. The beautiful huge stone fireplace, the centerpiece of the living space, begged to be used, which we did even though the night temps were comfortable. And the sound of the loons every night was enchanting. As canoeists, we enjoyed the small size of the pond with no more than one or two motor boats cruising around at any one time. With the temps in the upper 80's most of the week, we took full advantage of the dock to swim in the crystal clear waters. This is a great family vacation home though not for the physically disabled due to the steep path to the water.
If you're looking for more activities, Naples is only 4 miles away. There we played mini golf at Steamboat Landing - a fun course with a Maine theme and lots of shade. The wild mushroom ravioli at Merced's Italian restaurant was excellent, and the Seaplane Adventures tour gave us a terrific view of the lakes and mountains in the area. Naples also has a marina with jet ski and boat rentals, a river boat cruise and more. The Songo Lock, a few miles further down the road, is also an interesting historical site that shouldn't be missed. Though my husband and I were content to stay in the local area, our children found the 45 minute drive to Portland convenient for a taste of the ocean, shopping, and more dining options.
In summary, this property is a peaceful lakeside retreat with options for other activities nearby. We look forward to returning again!
