REACHING NEW HEIGHTS … THE TELSTRA TOWER
The Telstra Tower is seen all around Canberra but is it worth going there? We thought so.
It is something to do just once and perhaps best to pick a day which is clear blue skies, little to no wind and no rain.
Located at the top of Black Mountain Reserve, the drive itself is lovely even a bit hairy at times. You see, Canberrians are extremely healthy people, they love their bicycles and that’s great. However, on a windy steep road lined with bush on each side, wildlife, flora and fauna and spectacular views, it’s hard to take note of all these things as you are dodging these healthy but crazy cyclists.
At the top, there is plenty of parking and the Telstra Tower stands proud.
There is an entry fee and a family ticket is just $17. Once you have paid, head through the turnstiles to the lifts which will take you to the enclosed viewing platform some 870 metres above sea level.
There you will discover 360o panoramic views over Canberra and beyond. Another quirky edition is the red vintage post box. There is a café and plenty of seating.
If you are feeling adventurous, head up the stairs to the 1st outdoor level with the same views but this time no glass blocking the view and there is another level above that. Only recommended when no rain and slight wind.
When we were there, it was an overcast day but it was a nice experience all the same.
