  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud. This is where every child in this town went to school in this picturesque location but as time rolls on is Appalachia move on too? #appalachianechoes

  • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

We have stayed in this condo unit before at The Vistas and loved it. Large two bedroom two bath, with a huge kitchen, fireplace, incredible balcony Overlooking Sugar mountain. Highly recommended. We look forward to our next vacation at Banner Elk in this same condo.

This a beautiful and spaciousvproperty that has not changed a bit over the last few years that we have rented from him. Comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen, gorgeous views, and a very close to restaurants shopping and skiing. It is much newer and more modern than the majority of properties that are ski and ski out. If you don’t mind a short drive to the slopes, this is an impeccable location.

Very nice property with great view. Comfortable and plenty of room. The complex is easy to get to and very convenient to town. Road is wide and paved two lanes which is great in the mountains. The complex has beautiful garden/landscspimg. We had a soft grassy lawn for morning yoga with gorgeous Mountain View’s. Big patio with lots of space. Brian was very responsive and helpful!

Wonderful stay minutes from Banner Elk

Property is as described and on the first floor and an end unit. Great views and very clean. Just minutes to the traffic light in Banner Elk by car. Balcony is great for relaxing and rooms are spacious. Check in was a breeze! Stay was much enjoyed.

Exceeded Expectations!

We had an amazing experience! This was an early 50th wedding anniversary getaway and everything was perfect. We hoped to see snow and got 8 inches. The condo was very clean, had comfortable beds and a cozy fireplace to see by while watching it snow. Brian, the host, was available for anything we might need but we had everything we needed! It was wonderful!!!
