![Old Manor House site, Topcliffe Known as Manor Hills or Cock Lodge, this is the site of a medieval manor house belonging to the Percys. The view shows the outer ditch and bank in the foreground with the inner ditch [moat] and bank beyond. The conical mound was the site of a windmill. The manor is thought to have been erected in the 13th century and was described as 'ruinous' in a survey of the estate in 1577. "Very helpful, we were going to be later than anticipated arriving, phoned to let them know, they reassured us it was no problem, everything was ready for our stay.
Check-in at the bar was easy, staff showed us to our studio, staff very cheerful.
Food in the pub was great, not just pub grub.
Only downside, studio was small."
