The property is being renovated, nearly finished downstairs and very nice. The staff are very good, friendly and helpful. Wi fi is good. Dinner and breakfast is fine and served without a long wait.We would stay again, as it is central and has a nice beer garden, which would be very nice in hot weather. Thank you Dusty and Allan.

Excellent facilities,excellent food, particularly the Indian restaurant. Friendly and obliging staff. Superb beer garden and good well kept ales. Stairs and landing carpet could do with a makeover, other than that excellent.

The room seems to be part way through some renovations but the walls still need painting. The bathroom had a major leak so the floor was always wet a d we had to use multiple towels to stop it spreading into the rest of the room. The staff were extremely polite and as helpful as possible with the issue. We had room 33 and the window looked into an internal alcove which was invaded by pidgeons which were quite noisy at 6am and smelt weird. There is no onsite parking

It looked on the surface a lovely hotel. Sadly when up close, the rooms were not finished off properly, seals around doors, bathroom, floor, pieces of wood instead of door stops. Bulding rubble in the decked beer garden. The good bones are there but needs finished properly and cleaned regularly, a lot of dust. Need more staff. It could be lovely with a bit if TLC

Indian food was fantastic chief and barman very pleasant and chief always asked if food was ok Rooms could be cleaner a socket would be good near kettle .breakfast was mediocre but hot and served quickly could do with more choices If known it was a haunted hotel we would never have booked due to my anxiety Rooms not serviced asked for more toilet roll but never got

Needs a good clean new carpets everywhere could do with a maid service too. Fried breakfast was a bit greasy but otherwise food was ok the pizza I had was home made and was very nice. The manager was very helpful and courteous.. The location is lovely right by a lovely beach

Read reviews after booking this last minute - wanted to cancel as they were so poor but couldn't without losing what we'd paid. Went with low expectations but were pleasantly surprised. The room wasn't sparkling but it was clean enough. Bed linen and towels were clean. Cups less so. No teaspoon in room or sockets for the kettle. We managed. Staff largely absent and both check in and out were peculiar experiences but when we did interact with staff they were friendly enough. Spooky reviews unfounded for room 8 and we all slept peacefully enough. No parking but village and beach conveniently accessible.

Whilst the only two staff were nice enough, there was hardly ever anybody there. The bedding was clean. I didn’t eat there at all due to awful reviews which I didn’t see till after I’d booked for four nights. On my second night water came down from the ceiling into my room had to put the bin underneath to catch the water. This came as no surprise to them. When I mentioned it I was handed the phone to speak with the manager who was very brief and unapologetic. I felt sorry for the lad who appeared to be by himself for most of the time. It was tricky to have a conversation as he was unable to understand. He was nice though. I note the hotel has had some awful reviews and weirdly a couple of excellent ones that in no way reflect the state of the place! Would advise reading reviews first before booking unlike me. Had I been able to afford to stay somewhere else I would have done. I gather people have previously requested refunds to no avail. Won’t be going back.

Room wasn't cleaned at all, all sorts of used items under the bed that did not belong to us, broken tiles on bathroom floor didn't allow to walk on it barefoot, shower was from hot to extremely hot, cobwebs all over the place. Awful state of the property, ell of damp everywhere, we had to leave after first night, it was unbearable to stay any longer

Very dirty room. Dust everywhere. Throw cushions stank of sweat. Bathroom was clean but drain was clogged. Staff came with plunger and showed me that he “fixed it” when my son was trying to shower drain started flooding again. We ended up not showering We found someone’s stale crisps under our bed. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with state of the room I got shoulder shrug. Also reception was never attended and lots of sensitive customer info on the view that anyone could access. Not a professional place. They just trying to get more money from you. They kept trying to sell food or drinks but we didn’t feel comfortable consuming anything they prepared considering state of that place.

I read previous reviews just couple of days before we left and the hotel sounded awful, but too late for us to cancel. We were hopeful but unfortunately was worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in, in fact we didn’t stay!! On entering was very dark and untidy, no reception, checked in with gentleman at the bar who was very unwelcoming, especially when we asked about onsite parking (which was advertised) there is none, only street parking and being Bank Holiday and popular place the nearest we could park half mile away. We were taken upstairs to our room by a younger man, the smell was awful on the stairs, very unkempt and run down, on stairway. Young man entered the room and came out immediately closing door behind him and we were asked to go back down stairs, bearing in mind this was 3 flights of narrow stairs. When we got into room some 20 mins later it was very dark, smelly and to our mind not very clean. I just cried and we agreed could not stay there. We handed key in and left leaving us to try and book somewhere else for next couple of nights, not forgetting losing the money we paid up front. My learning read through as many reviews before I book in future. Expedia why is this still being advertised by you!!!!

After booking this hotel I found out it was haunted! Maybe I should have done a bit of research before booking but I really feel this should be stated when booking! Looks like they are getting work down stairs in the restaurant but as soon as you walk through the door to go the rooms it stinks! It’s like a musky mouldy smell, the room was even worse! With black mould on the ceiling coming down the wall right next to bed that had stains on the sheets. We ended up leaving.

This hotel was absolutely terrible the whole hotel as soon as you walked in smelt damp & mold carpets were dirty had to shout to find someone who appeared to be painting this was after 5pm went to have a look at our twin room which was supposed to be refurbished kettle was filthy never been cleaned I don’t think wires all over the place coming from tv & wardrobe was a joke a few hangers in a corner near tv. would not recommend this hotel so please anyone do NOT stay at the schooner in fact all the other hotels in alnmouth know the schooner has a bad reputation but sadly we didn’t we collected our bags that evening & went to the Red Lion & booked in there

The hotel seems to be going through a bit of a refurbishment and the only person there was a builder who was told there would be guests arriving. He gave me the room key, told me the front door lock wasn't working and just give it a shoulder budge to open the door and that was that....no staff or anything, just a phone number in the room incase of any problems. Came down in the morning to an empty place with no sign that anyone had been in overnight
