"We had a good stay at the HGI in Gastonia. Generally clean, with some signs of wear in the room, but otherwise fine. The staff was above and beyond nice and helpful at the front desk (Crystal was a standout- VERY nice!). The bartender was also nice and helpful when kids in our group wanted to order food. The lounge areas outside and in the lobby were good for adult hangouts. The ONLY things we didn't love were that the pool area was SO loud that we ended up leaving when a group of about 7...

"Having a room on the third floor with an internal hallway door instead of an external door I think helped. The entire property smelled of Swisher Sweets and pot. The placement of the bathroom sink crowded the toilet so that you had to put an arm up to sit on it, so forget using it to put your underwear on after a shower. In the shower, the shampoo is sealed shut with a layer of plastic there's no way to open; I had to step on the tube to burst it open. The mattress was oddly contoured so that my...
