Vintage Cottage in Wanchese

  • Enjoy the fishing village of Wanchese, the quaint town of Manteo, and the nearby beaches of the Atlantic during your stay in “Aunt Vid’s Cottage.” Aunt Vid’s family restored the cottage, preserving its original charm while providing many new amenities, including WiFi, central air-conditioning, new appliances, and an outside shower and fish-cleaning sink.

    Upon entering Aunt Vid's cottage, you will be transported to an earlier era of tranquility on Roanoke Island. The family restored the original pine floors throughout the cottage. They renovated the kitchen while maintaining its vintage feel with basket-weave tile, a retro fridge, and butcher block counter-tops. The little cottage has a large front porch for enjoying the island breeze. After a day at the beach or fishing on the sea, the outside shower is a private, roomy spot in which to wash away the sand.

This is a beautiful cottage,, me and my best friend are both widows now and we had a wonderful week together here. Everything was here that we needed and we most loved the fact that you are away from the tourist crowd but close enough to anything you could possibly want. We felt very safe in this sweet community. The only suggestion I would give anyone considering on visiting is bring mosquito spray,, this is the coastal marsh area and there are mosquitos. Thanks to Aunt Vid’s descendants for the use of their cottage!!! Susan and Bonnie

Yes- our hosts were very welcoming and communicated with us well. The cottage was exactly what we hoped for - warm and cozy and like a step back in time but still meeting all of our “modern” needs.

Charming cottage near everything

Enjoyed staying in this cute cottage while going out and exploring sites nearby. Very clean, family loved the record player, fresh flowers in each room, extra beach towels were helpful too!

A perfect get away

This was the sweetest, coziest, and happiest little cottage to stay in. The property is well maintained. It has everything you need for a nice get away. It's a great jumping off point, Kitty Hawk museum, the lighthouse, the ocean, and local eateries.

felt like coming "home"

From questions before our arrival, welcoming touches on the front porch and inside the house, the amenities, extras that were offered us made this more than a charming, convenient choice for us, it made it feel like a homecoming. If we return to OBX, we would love to stay here again.

Great cottage for a small family

Wonderful cottage with a lot of attention to detail. We really enjoyed the food in Wanchese and the wildlife refuge. The owners were very thoughtful.

If you are looking for a welcoming, clean, well cared for, out of the way, peaceful cottage filled with a loving spirit and memories of a life well lived this is the place. First Visit to Outer Banks

This cozy cottage was a good central location for visiting many Outer Banks sites. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch and deck during our stay. The house had lots of nice touches, even a guitar and turntable.
