"The hotel lobby and the room I stayed in had been recently refurbished. Other areas of the building were tired and not to the same standard. The tap water in the room ran yellow for a while and the shower didn't drain. The hotel is under refurbishment so hopefully when it's complete the experience will be consistent throughout. On a whole, it was good value for money but not as modern/fancy as the pictures portray."

"I liked the design of the room, amenities and the A/C worked perfectly in the greatest heat outside. It was moden and quiet inside the room. Our windows were facing the car park and motorway services, so occasionally a noise from cars could be heard. But we slept well and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom could do with some restoration soon, as signs of wear could be visible. But overall for the price we paid and convenient location it was a very good choice."

"When I turned on to the drive I was struck by the stunning tudor style building and grounds. I received a warm welcome from the friendly staff when I checked in, and clear directions on how to get to my room. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The decor was a little dated, but you could argue inkeeping for the period of the property. The grounds are stunning."

"In a great position to walk within Chester and situated next to the canal. The hotel was clean and the facilities had everything needed. I took the opportunity of having a facial in the spa...excellent! Very picturesque in the evening and bar is a comfortable environment for a single woman like myself to have a nightcap. Overall I highly recommend."

"A lovely property with tasteful decor. All the staff are very pleasant. Palm Court restaurant was really nice, and the gym and swim facilities were good. The Sunday carvery is excellent and complimentary products in the room a nice touch. Not a lot of seating in the bar if wanting drinks only, most of it is for eating. Similarly, car parking is at a premium with a wedding on. Changing rooms are quite small, and could do with a spin machine for drying trunks (many have these now)."

"The bed was very uncomfortable!!! It dipped in the middle so it was quite difficult to lie flat. The balcony only had one seat on it but, as we couldn’t get the door open anyway, that wasn’t a problem. I didn’t take a shower cap with me as I expected the hotel to provide a selection of toiletries. It didn’t. "The hotel is nice. The hotel pub is the same. And the staff is polite. The coffee machine DID NOT WORK in the room. You couldn’t even put the mug (from the hotel room not my personal one) to pour coffee in it because it is too big. In the room there are no sockets. I wanted to charge my laptop and other devices, I didn’t have where. There are two “sockets” on one side and the other of the bed STRICTLY for phone cables. Meaning you insert the cable directly. "Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing and did not meet the expectations of a 4-star hotel. The first room had a problem with the toilet flush, but the staff reacted quickly and gave us another room. However, the overall condition of the hotel was poor. "Lovely stay at the Doubletree by Hilton, very clean and good food in the restaurant. Spa was relaxing and treatment was amazing, would definitely recommend. We got a free upgrade to a deluxe king suite also which was nice of the hotel staff :)"
