Nice cabin, but needs some upkeep
Publicado el 3 mar. 2021 en HomeAway
First, the positive. Alicia was almost always very quick in responding to messages, and clearly wanted to make things work for us. E.g., when the firewood delivery people didn't come through after attempts on her part, she personally brought over firewood for us.
Also, it's definitely a nice cabin, adequate for a large group, and clean. King bed was very comfortable. Good location for access to Soda Springs area.
However, I agree with some of the other reviews regarding needing some maintenance. Examples:
- The overhead lights in the garage (where firewood is stored) don't work. When I notified Alicia of this, her response was "Yes the fluorescent lights in the garage have been going out for quite some time". Rather than fixing these (replacing them would be a simple, inexpensive fix), they put a new hanging light in the opposite corner of the garage, where it does little to illuminate the area where the firewood and other stuff were stored. This could be dangerous - fortunately I'd brought a headlamp with me.
- Another reviewer complained over a year ago about the refrigerator not cooling. It worked for us, but ran (noisily) at least 95% of the time (not an exaggeration), and the couple of times it shut off, it sounded like something really bad was happening. Warning signs are there - needs at least a service call.
- Had issues with the keypad for the garage. Alicia let me know about this when we arrived - probably the battery, which is a common problem in cold weather. Understandable, and I was able to get it to work intermittently, but there was no reliable way of opening the garage door until I found a broken remote in a drawer, and managed to get that working. Alicia was responsive about trying to resolve this (including replacing the battery when she came with firewood), but there really needs to be a reliable backup method of opening the garage door.
Finally, there are some misrepresentations/omissions in the description:
"The cabin is surrounded by mountain views": You can get to some views not that far easy, but you see nothing but trees and other cabins from the cabin. The photo of Castle Peak was taken miles away.
"Gourmet kitchen": While adequately equipped, the kitchen is quite small and hardly "gourmet".
Summary - I think this cabin has quite a bit going for it. But, the owners should take a more proactive approach to upkeep, and be willing to fix things properly when problems do occur (e.g. the lights).
