A week in mid-March

It was a difficult building to find and had no name outside.
We found the ground floor of the building very dark and gloomy and this was made worse by the fact that a number of the light bulbs didn't work. The kitchen was especially dark and the lights in the cooker hood did not work. The kitchen was not well equipped, lacking simple things like a chopping board. The cooker was verging on the dangerous. It was an old design without flame failure protection and one ring had a habit of going out. The supply of hot water to the kitchen sink was poor and it was never hot enough to do properly hygienic washing-up. One of the two lights over the outside dining table did not work. We found the upstairs bedroom very pleasant, being much brighter and airier, but even here three or four bulbs in the chandeliers did not work!
We were a little concerned about security for various reasons. The windows did not seem very secure, as well as being hard to open and close. There were several locked internal doors to other parts of the building and there was no safe which is something we have come to expect. We were pleased that there was an ample supply of towels and bedding. The property was very clean when we arrived and the young lady who showed us around was most pleasant and efficient, speaking excellent English.
