Beyond the town’s cobbled streets, popular attractions include the 199 Steps that lead to the historic ruins of Whitby Abbey, while more history awaits at Whitby Museum and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum. The region’s scenic coast path, the Cleveland Way, sits half a mile away and leads to more charming resorts, including Sandsend and Robin Hood’s Bay (both within 6.5 miles). Further along the coast, traditional days by the sea beckon at Scarborough, Cayton Bay, and Filey (all within 26.5 miles).
