Comfortable bach with stunning views over a beautiful beach

  • Moureeses Bay and the nearby settlement of Whananaki are situated on the beautiful east coast of Northland, looking out to the Poor Knights Islands. There is no through-road, this is a destination, which gives it a peaceful and laid-back atmosphere, more than other nearby beach locations.

    The beach is inviting, family and adult friendly with safe swimming at one end and a good surf break at the other. There is good snorkelling and fishing spots around the headlands at each end of the bay, and a cluster of nearby islands to explore from a kayak.

    If you like walking, there are many beautiful places to explore in the surrounding area, including a section of the Te Araroa trail. Small boats can be launched from the beach or in the estuary in nearby Whananaki. The estuary is also a great place to explore, walk out to the ocean, kayak among the mangroves or sail a dinghy when the tide is in. The local store supplies all the essentials and has great coffee, burgers, seafood and pizza during the peak season.

    Relaxation is the key pursuit with a large deck attached to the living area and a flat lawn out the back. The bach is comfortable and basic in a classic NZ bach way. The bedrooms are on the small size, making it more suitable for families or groups of four.

    There are board games and books and good coverage for both Vodafone and Spark. We have wifi, and the wifi name ("SSID") is hidden - don't tell the kids!

    This really is a special part of New Zealand, and we love sharing the bach with others who will take good care of it.

    The water supply is rainwater collected from the roof, only after the rain has washed the roof for a while. It provides clean water that tastes like fresh untreated water should. Please conserve water in the summer months.

    The house will be spotlessly clean on your arrival and we ask that guests leave it reasonably clean and tidy, particularly in the peak summer months when our local cleaner has to turn the house around very quickly.

What a great spot and a cool classic kiwi bach. We had a great mini staycation in Nigel’s bach. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The local store is just down the road and beautiful Mouresses Bay is a short walk down the hill. Great communication from Nigel, thank you for having us!

Northland Gem!

We had a fantastic holiday, and the house was just what we hoped for. It had everything in it that we needed for a very comfortable stay. The view over the ocean, islands and beach are exceptional and something we never got tired off - it was hard to leave. The peace and quiet of the place was so good to experience after a very busy year. Certainly a bach that we hope to return to again.

Lovely Bach

Lovely little Bach, very clean and tidy. The location is spectacular and the view from the bach is great but it’s south facing so you loose the sun really quickly. Height of summer would be the best time to get the most out of this Bach.

Can’t beat that view

Good sized Bach. Everything you need - did miss a microwave though. Amazing view. Big deck to sit on - short walk to good swimming and surf beach. Myself and my Son did caught in a rip on the north side so watch that side when then are waves everywhere else. Great to have access to a kayak. It’s a pity that the dryer wasn’t working - with all the wet weather it would have been helpful. All up - very comfy Bach and great place to relax or bring the kids.
