In the mansion/"Hôtel Particulier" that was the old mansion for the first generals of the prestigious School of Calvalry of Saumur: 3000 sq.f apartment/duplex, quiet and sunny, 8 rooms, of high standing luxury in an environment mixing objects and furniture from the XVIth to the XXth Century.
5 Bedrooms, lounge and mezzanine of more than 100 sq.m.
4 inner fireplaces bringing an incommensurable charm to the different rooms.

What a place! We enjoyed an unforgettable 10 days in this beautiful place. The position is unbeatable, overlooking the Loire, with postcard views from every window. The chateau perched above made us feel like we were living in a fairytale - we could not stop taking photos!The apartment is spread over the two top floors of a historical building, with a lift for baggage. It is full of quirks and character, with a rambling layout presenting plenty of spaces for socializing or sitting in quiet solitude. This is no bland vacation rental: every room is furnished with original features and antique objects which rivalled those we saw in the local chateaux and museums. We felt privileged to be entrusted with such exquisite surrounds.Saumur itself is delightful; a perfect size and location to enjoy the best of the Loire, with plenty of excellent restaurants within a few steps, wineries and distilleries to visit, and wonderful shopping.Our host Gilles was attentive, responsive and eager to help, with a warm delight at our appreciation of his magnificent place.For anyone seeking an authentic and refined Loire experience, we thoroughly recommend this gem.

We had a very relaxing 3 weeks' vacation. The apartment was fantastic. We had everything we needed. Gilles was always available and attentive to our needs. The apartment is beautiful and the views are fantastic. We loved Saumur and also took day trips to area castles and other sites. We ate at great restaurants in Saumur and loved shopping at the Saturday market. We would certainly go back!

Gilles's apartment is every bit as beautiful as the photos suggest. It is right in the heart of lovely Saumur. Our whole family was grateful and enchanted by both the town and the apartment; and the accommodations were practically convenient as well as charming. Mme Charles, the property manager, was very helpful.

There were 5 of us visiting for a visit to the Loire Valley before Paris. The place was fantastic; it was like living in a castle. It was beautiful and comfortable. It was a great base for visiting wineries and chateaus. I didn’t get to meet our host as he was away on business, but he stayed in contact and his wife was lovely to work with. There are stairs involved but this is Europe and there are stairs everywhere. I would go back there if I ever return.

Hemos pasado 4 noches en familia en una casa excepcional. Bien situada, con maravillosas vistas y un salón con chimenea donde compartir desayunos, cenas y juegos. Nuestros hijos estuvieron en unas habitaciones magníficas en la planta inferior y nosotros muy bien en la de arriba que tiene una magnífica vista sobre el Loira. Tiene ascensor hasta la planta alta así que no hay problema ninguno. Será difícil olvidar estos días en Saumur. El propietario muy atento en todo momento . Enhorabuena Gilles por tener un patrimonio tan bonito . Ojalá que todos los que pasen por ahí lo sepan ver y respetar. Recomendable al máximo!!

Perfect place for our work group and family to stay. Located right downtown and within a short walk to everything. Place is well appointed for several families, private rooms for everyone: worked out wonderfully for all of us!

Het was heerlijk. Prachtige lokatie. Fantastisch uitzicht. Alles om de hoek. Fietsverhuur, terassen, winkels, gratis parkeren langs de kade aan de overkant. Heerlijke wijnen en proeverijen. Mooie historische omgeving met leerzame momenten. Helaas geen zwembad dichtbij en geen mogelijkheid om in de Loire te zwemmen. Doordat we geen kleine kinderen bij ons hadden was dit geen groot gemis. Voor ons was het Frankrijk zo als je zoekt. Fantastique!

What a wonderful week we had in our gite. Views galore, incredible antiques and atmosphere, green plants and AC. Our beds were very comfortable. We had everything we needed. Very close to lovely old Saumur town center, grocery shopping and sites. Comfortable beds. We liked the authentic tapestries, exposed wood beams and other touches that remind you of the history that surrounds you in this place. Kitchen space and appliances including clothes washer worked well for us. The host Gilles was “très agréable”! For travelers accustomed to easy conveniences there were some adjustments. Full length mirrors would have been helpful as well as a place to be able to sit and use a hair dryer with nearby electrical outlet. Air conditioning was present and worked well in many areas but not as well in a few others. Parking was a challenge at times although some of our stay was over a major holiday weekend. However, for us all of these challenges were offset by things like the beautiful views, the ambiance, the location and the general comfort and space of this place. We would definitely book again and say thank you Gilles so much for your kindness and patience!

We stayed here for 4 nights after 4 days cycling along the Loire river. The apartment, over 2 floors, was simply stunning. Amazing views of the Chateau and also of the river and full of interesting stuff. Myself, my 2 brothers and partners had a really relaxing time with the apartment as a fabulous base. I cannot recommend this place enough. The Host, Giles & his wife werereally lovely and on had if needed.

We stayed here in autumn 2021 and were blown away by the space and by the views. We liked it so much that we returned with friends in July 2022, and we are very happy we did. The apartment is spectacular and the views of the river and the chateau are wonderful. M. Gros was always available in case of questions. Lovely apartment, highly recommended.

Tout s’est très bien passé. Seul bémol nous voulions faire un feu de cheminée mais celui ci n’est pas compris dans le prix. L’appartement est très agréable, avec beaucoup d’independance Pour chacun. Il est également très bien situé, à côté du château et en plein centre ville. La literie est ultra confortable, l’appartement est très silencieux.

The apartment is unforgettable and the photos hardly do it justice. The location is unbeatable: you are a couple of minutes' walk from the pedestrianised shopping area and overlooking the river. The living room has stunning views both of the chateau and of the Loire; the bedrooms have a wonderful view of the river. But at least as impressive as the location is the interior itself. The apartment includes an incredible selection of sculptures, tapestries and furniture from the 15th century onwards (some possibly earlier!) which give it a unique ambience. It is comfortably furnished with lots of nooks and crannies for sitting and reading and enjoying the view. The apartment is a duplex, occupying the top two floors (3rd and 4th) of the building. Three of the bedrooms (including the beautiful master bedroom) are on the lower floor, and the upper floor houses two more bedrooms, the living area and a small kitchen. There's a slightly steep staircase between floors, and also (a godsend for us) a lift (the lift entrance on the 4th floor is a private one within the apartment, but on the 3rd floor, the lift entrance is on the landing outside the apartment). With the incredible artwork and the staircase, I might think twice if we had very young children, but our 12-year-olds loved the apartment (as did we) and are already talking about returning next year (as are we). There is short-term (paid) public parking directly outside the apartment, and free parking a bit further away, but if you walk round the corner to the Police Municipale office, €30 gets you a parking pass for the current calendar month allowing you to park in any paid public parking in the city. Monsieur Gros was a very solicitous host only a phone call away, sorting out a small problem with the lock on the building's main door very quickly, and Madame Charles was enthusiastic and helpful in welcoming us to the apartment and in seeing us off. All in all, we couldn't recommend this apartment highly enough. We loved Saumur and plan to return next year, and we certainly plan to return to this apartment.

Un appartement situé dans un immeuble ancien qui a le charme de l'ancien et moins les commodités du moderne. Emplacement parfait pour visiter Saumur le plus : des grandes chambres avec chacune leur salle de bain le moins : une petite cuisine Nous sommes ravis de ce sejour et de l'accueil des hotes

On plonge quelques siècles en arrière dans cette demeure qui possède une atmosphère reposante, sereine. Les vues sur le château et sur la Loire sont un véritable atout! La literie est hyper confortable (lits XXL!). N’attendez pas 300 m2 nickel (poussières ci et là mais vu les œuvres d’art présentes, on peut comprendre). Nous avons passé un merveilleux séjour dans cette région de la Loire et moi, je me suis imaginée Princesse dans mon salon, au pied du château de Saumur. J’espère y retourner bientôt. Je recommande vraiment cette location.

Location à recommander sans réserve, tant pour le confort exceptionnel et la situation privilégiée du double appartement au centre de Saumur, que pour la bienveillance peu ordinaire du propriétaire et la gentillesse de Madame Charles qui nous a accueillis.
