The hotel we booked was not the one we ended up in, it is a sister hotel of the one we booked, my group and I were told just as we landed in the airport that the hotel we booked (Retaj Al Hayat) had closed down for unforeseen circumstances (I don't believe this).I didn't realise this till we arrived at the premises and realised the hotel was shut! Luckily there was a random guy around the area who told us to call a number, I didn't have any mobile data so when I eventually did i had recieved messages on Expedia from the hotel managersaying that we needed to go to their other hotel which was in another loaction, this was not great after a long flight!
The staff were good and helped when they could, English was not their first language and this is something they need to work on, overall we managed to communicate through Google translate etc
The hotel is located on a huge hill which I would not recommend for any elderly or children, they do have a buggy service/ golf cart which is available 24/7 to take you down the hill and up the hill when required, you have to call them on a mobile phone for the to send it down, the traffic at the drop of point is horrendous and usually you end up stuck their for 10-15 minutes etc. It says the walk from the hotel is 10-15 minutes to the mosque ..this is not true it is at least 25 minutes before you enter the Haram at least on the outskirts .. I would use Uber to order taxis as they all charge you double and Uber worked great for us.
