Cozy Cabin Overlooking Beautiful Lake Cuyamaca
Come enjoy some of San Diego's forgotten beauty in this gorgeous, Piute Trail mountain cabin overlooking Lake Cuyamaca and just minutes from the quaint little town of Julian. During your stay, you'll have a chance to see wild deer grazing in the nearby pastures below, wild turkey foraging up and down the hillside (sometimes they even visit the deck!), raccoon's getting into their usual mischief, bald eagles soaring above or swooping in for a quick meal, owls, orioles, blue-jays, migratory ducks & geese, woodpeckers... and the list goes on! If you're into bird watching and/or photography, this is a great place for both! Using the cabin as a base camp, you'll be able to explore Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Cleveland National Forest ,Anza-Borrego State Park with their many trails and viewpoints; fish for Florida bass, smallmouth bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and even white sturgeon (Yes, our lake has sturgeon!); picnic on Fletcher Island; go boating; or just take in the peaceful surroundings and vast views from the comfort of the cozy cabin! Open year-round, including the snowy winter months when you can take advantage of the local sledding and snowboarding terrain. Available by reservation only, so plan early! My elderly parents and I were elated throughout our stay in this lovely cabin with vintage flair. It is within walking distance to Cuyamaca Lake and within a short drive to Julian. The cabin is very clean, and it has all the kitchen essentials, laundromat combo, TV, WiFi, etc. We have stayed here before, and we were glad to come back for the peace and tranquility we enjoy in these paradise-like surroundings. Thank you to our hosts that make this possible!

Weekend getaway

The Piute Trail Lodge was prefect for our weekend getaway with our 15 and 17 year olds and our two dogs. The location was perfect and within a quick drive or walk to the lake. We enjoyed sitting on the deck with our dogs watching the wild turkey in the mornings.

Lovely Country Cabin

The cabin is cozy with a great view of the lake. In the early morning you can see wild turkey and deer. Easy walk to the lake and the trails nearby. A great cabin that is ideal for a family weekend.

Great!

Absolutely beautiful view! We spent two nights and would happily do the trip again. The front deck alone was worth it. We had a gentle breeze and warm days that made sitting on the front porch really pleasant. Great trip.

Beautiful and Quaint

We loved the location for its view and access to the lake but also really appreciated the spaciousness of the room sizes and that it had extra cots in case anyone needed their own bed. Would 100 percent like to stay again!

Cozy Cabin Stay

This was our 2nd stay at this property. The only issue encountered is the fireplace was not cleaned on both our stays, so upon entering the cabin it had a heavy ash smell. We would’ve enjoyed a nice nighttime fire as the nights were cold. Other than that, it’s a nice, comfortable cabin.

Spring weekend

We are a repeat customer, although we've never stayed when the weather is warmer. I am happy to report that the AC works great. Also happy to report that we didn't need it because there is such a great breeze up here. Another fantastic stay at the lake!

Our favorite getaway

We go to this spot a few times a year to get away, and it’s our favorite. It’s great for proximity to Lake Cuyamaca and we typically see wildlife right out the living room window.The wrap around deck adds extra space & is nice to sit and drink your coffee or have a meal outside.We eat most of our meals in, so having a well stocked kitchen is important. There’s plenty of cookware, and I’ve never had a problem finding what I need to cook a meal.Overall, the space is perfect for our family of 4. We’ve made good memories here!

Great lake view

The house was clean and had all the basics. Decor was pretty outdated and nothing more than the basics provided, but it was comfortable and the view of the lake was amazing. We failed to check the weather before arriving so we were surprised to have rain, hail and snow this late in March, but it was fun for the kids. We just didnt get to do as much fishing as we'd hoped. Make sure to bring your own coffee, toiletries, ziploc bags, chip clips, etc. Many rentals weve stayed at recently have provided these extras, so its hard to know what to expect.

Family getaway at the lake

This is our second stay here at the Piute Trail lodge, and it never disappoints us. The cabin is clean and cozy. The wrap around deck offer beautiful views of lake Cuyamaca, there many opportunities for fishing and great places to hike. We also love that our dogs are always welcome here too.

Great Trip!

Unfortunately, there were very high winds so the power company had to shut off the power to the area. We were informed ahead of time and given the option to reschedule, which we declined. They ran a power cord from their generator to the cabin to the heater so we could have a heat source other than the fireplace. As usual, they were very accommodating and the best hosts, ever! Looking forward to coming back for Thanksgiving!!I couldn't believe it, we had 14 turkeys in the front, about 40 various black birds at the feeder we brought with us, and 7 deer walked through the property. Scrub and Steller's Jays, chickadees, and more. We had a wonderful time!

Weekend in the mountains

This is my second time staying at this property and I can't wait to book it again. It's so quiet and peaceful and really convenient for hiking in both Laguna and Julian. The view is just beautiful. It feels like my home away from home.
