We stayed 21–28 February 2026 to celebrate my 40th birthday with my wife and our 4-year-old son. We’ve previously had great experiences with Novotel in Melbourne, so we expected similar standards here. Unfortunately, this stay was disappointing.
On arrival, our room had been changed from a Superior Deluxe Ocean View to a Deluxe City View. We were initially told this was an upgrade, which was confusing, and it took several discussions before we were given the room we had booked.
The air conditioning in our room was not working properly, and we were provided with plug-in fans instead, which was not ideal in the February heat.
We were also disappointed that the pool was closed on weekdays until 4pm due to maintenance, despite receiving prior notice stating works would not begin until April 14. Poolside service was unavailable. While access to a partner hotel pool one block away was offered, it was inconvenient with a young child.
Positives: the room was clean with daily housekeeping, breakfast was good with varied options, and staff kindly surprised us with champagne and treats for my birthday.
The location is excellent, central to Cavill Ave, shops, restaurants and the beach.
However, overall the hotel did not meet the standard we expected, and we would not return.
