    With its great wraparound porches, the sun shines inside and out at this traditional Outer Banks home. The interior and exterior pay great attention to details, from the uniquely shaped pool to its tropical-themed bedrooms. It is located along a beautiful fish-filled freshwater pond on the sound side of Kinnakeet Shores. The water is easily accessible from the pool area by walking down the walkway to the dock.

    The landscaped ground level has a carport, a private pool, and a poolside wet bar. The under-house entry provides access to 3,700 square feet of carefully planned living space. You will enjoy the convenience of our all-floor elevator waiting to assist in moving you and your gear. Fire up one of the two propane grills and have a cookout.

    As you enter from the carport, you are in the recreation room with a wet bar, pool table, full-size refrigerator, and microwave. The crew's quarters with bunk beds and an adjoining bathroom make this area the perfect accommodation for the younger members of your party.

    The second floor is home to themed bedrooms that include Margaritaville, Pleasure Island, Key West, and Blue Lagoon. The perfect retreat after an exciting day at the beach. Each primary bedroom has a 43 smart TV. If you are not ready to sleep, enjoy the Paramount theater, featuring authentic theater seats, the latest DLP/HD 50' TV, and a 6.1 Theater Sound System. Check out the flashing marquee to see what's playing, or settle back and enjoy an old Elvis flick or over 100 other movies.

    Ride the elevator to our great room, kitchen, and the luxurious main bedroom suite Atlantis with its great Jacuzzi tub for soaking the night away. The great room will provide great family moments, dining, talking, and watching TV on the 4 King 65' curved smart TV or a good movie in surround sound. Get comfortable on the newly upgraded living room furniture. Relax with a chilled beverage, courtesy of the beer and wine cooler. If you like to escape the crowd, retreat to the upper deck to enjoy the ocean views and sound during the day or the stars in the evening.

    Any time, any season, Carolina Sunshine is the perfect vacation oasis.

    Things to Know
    The private pool is open seasonally from 4/26/2025 and close 10/12/2025. Dates are subject to change.
    The pool will open seasonally from 04/01/2026 and close 10/10/2026. Dates are subject to change.
    Guests have access to Kinnakeet Shores Pool & Tennis. You will receive an amenity pass during check-in to utilize the shared facility.
    You will be required to sign an additional lease agreement upon making a booking which will be sent to your email. You will not be able to check in until we have received your signature electronically. Please contact us directly if you do not receive this agreement.

Perfect location!!

The location is amazing!! I have been staying in Avon for 20+ years and this has been one of the best lakeside locations. Elevator was definitely a major bonus! The house was clean and definitely up to par. My only reason for 4 stars is the furniture...all beds and couches definitely need updated. Other than that we loved our stay at Carolina Sunshine!

Review of Carolina Sunshine

The house is ok, needs a lot of TLC. All the DVDs and VCR was great. Theatre room was awesome! Need new stove/oven and refrigerator. Kitchen was chaos, pots, pans. dishes were all over the place...you should have cleaning people arrange the kitchen before guest check in. I would not choose or recommend this house until they have some updates on appliances, toilet seats, kitchen pots, pans etc. Sound and beach was a good location.

Property needs attention

The stay was good, we made the best of it, house is roomy. The house lacks attention, dirty when we arrived, broken outdoor furniture, outside grounds needs grass/weeds cut, mold along the exterior doors and bathrooms. Hornets nest in the grill and outlets. 3rd floor grill caught fire while using it due to lack of cleaning. All these items were brought to the attention of Vacasa and the fact that work needs to be done in the house.

Rough start but overall great

Was told I could check in at 5pm, then got text I could get in house at 4pm. Yay! Got there and the house hadn’t been cleaned. Finally could get in at 5:40pm. Oven door was locked but fixed that. Hot water was a mystery until we realized faucets had to be in a certain unique position. A number of the chairs are broken outside and the extensive dvd library needs a complete reorg but overall we had a great time.

Beautiful lake front property

We were very happy with this lovely house. The elevator was a blessing. We enjoyed using the hot tub very much too. The description of the fish filled lake i feel may be inaccurate, as we fished but never even got one bite but we had fun anyway. The collection of dvd's to watch is very impressive and the upstairs living room with surround sound meant we didn't even need to use the lovely theater room, which I could not get turned on right. I'm sure that was probably me. We aren't very tech savy! I would definitely rent this property again and also Hatteras Realty was a great company to deal with, very helpful and compassionate people!

Dryer did not work. Had to call three times about the issue. Did not get it fixed the entire week. No dryer for entire stay. One large stove burner did not work. Was not fixed during our stay. Rug under dining room table needs to be removed or replaced. Floors upstairs were not cleaned.

Needs some updates

It was a nice house and location but definitely in need of some updates. The beds are in desperate need of replacement. Several of the king beds were collapsing in and all mattresses were uncomfortable. One of couches in living room has no support. We had a few other issues that had to be repaired. I will say the Vacasa repair person was very nice and got things repaired as best he could. Also there was trash left on the outside of the house including dirty diapers. Definitely an issue with ants inside and outside of the house. I think if these things get addressed this house would get better reviews and repeat visitors.

1980's called and they want their house back!

We had a great time on the outer banks, and this huge house was great for our family of 7. The décor is dated, and the house needs a serious deep cleaning. The electronics are old, but after calling the real estate office and getting the wifi password everyone's devices were up and running. The Xbox system required a password we did not have. The foosball game is warped so it does not work. Little things like that just make the place not great. The kitchen needs someone to go thru and check that there are actually the basic utensils needed. 2 head's up, they supply linens but you will be making all your beds, and the water faucets work backwards. Want a hot shower, turn the nozzle to cold. We thought the "house book" could have included more pertinent information. Obviously this house was once well done, now it is in desperate need of some TLC. Oh, you can see the ocean from the third floor deck, as you look between houses across the road.

Poor cleaning and no sleep

The home it’s self is nice. Pool heat was amazing; however, the home was not clean. There was beer cans around the hot tub and the pool table. All around the grounds of the home we spend the first two days picking up beer cans and box’s that had been left.There is mold over the shower in the margaritaville bedroom. But most there is not a single good mattress in this house. There is no excuse for this in a vacation property. The best place to sleep in this house is on the couch. If you love to fish, do not count on fishing in the pond behind the home with a small fishing pier. You can not the pond is so filled with weeds it is not possible. I love Avon and the outer banks but this house needs a lot of love as in just take the time to clean and for someone to care about their vacationers and read the reviews about the beds. We took a chance on this home after reading the reviews about the beds and have learned our lesson. If you are thinking about this home I would think twice if you like sleep. If I was Vacasa I would have the owner upgrade the beds and post an update to the description of the updates to this home like surf or sound realty does.
