"The room was clean and reasonably priced. Sadly I didn’t sleep well as the mattress wasn’t very comfortable - small for a double, and it felt like we were rolling together . Hong had kindly given us a room at the back of the house as I mentioned I am a light sleeper, but because it wasn’t the property I was expecting to stay in, it meant it was near to the main road which was quite noisy through most of the night on and off. "The staff in general didn’t look at all happy working there. Not once did we hear a good morning or evening from the reception staff or others around the hotel. The restaurant was ok, the food itself wasn’t brilliant and the service was not what we had experiences on our previous visits to Wychwood Park Hotel. Sorry to say but with such a nice hotel the whole experience was well below par."

"Unfortunately we discovered evidence of moth larvae under the bedside cabinets and curtains showing as threadbare carpet. Google AI confirmed larvae infestation. We saw a moth in the room which lead us to investigating. The Housekeeper assured us it was historical as are the cobwebs in the same area. "Interior has been done really well, in keeping with the grade 2 listing. Overnight stop or max 2 days stay ok. Otherwise it's a bit basic. I did not like how run down the outside was. Pipes looking ancient and covered in bird poo and close to air conditioning unit is concerning. Some of the sash windows need replacing. Parking is £7 a night but not run by hotel but quite a bit for this. Car park at rear needs the seating revisited as the furniture is falling apart, should be somewhere you can...

"Selected Wheatsheaf based on location travelling from Scotland to South Coast. We're told at reception that the room was up 2 flight of stairs but it would be worth it, Walking into room 12 our breath was taken away, it was definitely worth the climb. Dinner that evening and breakfast next morning we're excellent. Will definitely be back. Jim and Lorna"

"Customer service was brilliant at front desk. I asked if I could check in early after a 4 hr drive at 12 and staff was very accommodating. Room had all the necessary amenities and what I liked was it had an ironing board and iron. The room smelt of paint as may have been recently refurbished. Paid for parking at front desk as it was cheaper then paying at machine. Location is excellent. Thank you to the staff for making my stay a pleasant one."

"We enjoyed our stay at The Upper House. It's a beautiful property set in large gardens. Breakfast was good and we dined at their restaurant on a couple of nights and the food was excellent. Very close to the World of Wedgwood and a short walk to Barlaston, where there are a couple of pubs. EV charging is available for a small fee."
