The space:
At night you will hear the sounds of the rainforest, including the famous coquis, and you may see fireflies. During the day, you are likely to see a variety of birds in the backyard, including hummingbirds, great egrets (white heron or garzas), grackles (chango), red-tailed hawks , bananaquits and others.
Our house is also close to many local attractions:
San Juan International Airport (40 min, SJU), Old San Juan (50 min), El Yunque Rainforest (10 min), Luquillo Beach and Kioscos (5 min), new Ceiba Ferry Terminal to Culebra & Vieques (30 min), Bioluminescent bay (BioBay) in Fajardo (20 min), Carabali Rainforest Adventure Park (10 min), Seven Seas Beach (22 min). Horseback riding, ziplines, jet skis, surfing lessons (La Pared Beach), kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving are also available nearby.
Guest access:
Our house is in a gated community, which is part of a larger gated community. This means that you will go through two security gates. We will provide your name and license plate number to the gate guard .
Other things to note:
Our large, private pool is 15 feet x 30 feet. It is 3 feet deep on the shallow end and 6 feet (2 meters) deep on the deep end. Please supervise children in the pool area at all times.
We have planted many exotic plants and flowers around the property after some of these photos were taken, some of which are on the hill behind the backyard. The backyard is very private since we have privacy walls on both sides and no neighbors in the back.
Being adjacent to a tropical rainforest, we have taken extreme measures to keep out insects. There is a door sweep at the bottom of every door, and a tight-fitting screen on every window. All possible entry points have been sealed and caulked, and even the drain in the laundry room has a screen. So there is no place for them to enter the house except through a door or window that has been left open. To keep out these unwanted visitors, we strongly encourage our guests to keep doors and windows closed and to keep dry food bags tightly closed . We frequently clean under the large appliances (e.g. stove and refrigerator), so even if they do get inside they cannot survive due to the lack of food and places to hide. Keep in mind that the floors are all tiled and the walls are solid concrete.
