Très bon séjour, très bien placé, en plein centre avec tous les restaurants à proximité, un centre commercial à proximité avec un super marché, personnel très accueillant, une station de taxi à quelques pas. Tout a été parfait.

Perfect location, so close to the sea front, right in the old town, everything is walkable and pretty! Accommodation is clean and the rooms are pretty.

Front desk and cleaning staff were good to deal with and they did give us a welcome gift, which was nice, but the suite itself was a bit dirty when we arrived (stains on the carpet, dirt on the carpet, glassware looked dirty, stains on the bedding, etc.) — at least aesthetically— and the locations is quite loud. The locals festivities and World Cup fan zone watch events on the corner kept us up until the early AM so definitely bring earplugs or don’t come here at all if you can’t sleep with earplugs.

Notre Hôte André ainsi que le personnel ont été incroyables, vraiment. Je les remercie pour ce beau séjour et je recommande. Nous avons testé plusieurs chambres lors de notre périple et vraiment la literie est confortable, la chambre est propre, et la Guest est très très bien placée.

I had an incredible stay at Pier House during my recent trip to Funchal. I actually ended up staying here three times over the course of the trip, which says it all. Andre was an excellent host — genuinely kind, welcoming, and always helpful. He really made the experience feel personal and comfortable. The rooms were fantastic — spotless, beautifully maintained, and incredibly comfortable. I had some of the best nights’ sleep here, which is exactly what you want after long days exploring and hiking. The location is unbeatable. You’re right in the heart of Funchal, yet it’s not loud or overwhelming. Everything is on your doorstep — the pier, the old town, the cathedral, shops, restaurants — you simply couldn’t ask for better. I honestly cannot recommend Pier House highly enough. I’ll absolutely be staying here again when I return to Madeira for more hiking.

This is a lovely central Funchal location close to everything. It is perfect for exploring the main town and port area.

Great value for money

Perfect location, very clean room, comfortable bed and pillows! The only thing missing was some sort of a mosquito screen on the windows - every time I opened them to get some fresh air, tiny flies from the nearby trees invaded my room.

Great location

Great location in town waking distance to restaurants and right down town. Easy walk to the water and marina. We were there for Carnival and it was a perfect location. If you are looking for a quiet location- there might be a better option. It was perfect for what we were looking for.

In the center of Funchal. Make sure to let them know your arrival time so they can be there to coordinate checkin. Amazing value right in the heart of the city. Would recommend to anyone visiting

Hôtel très bien situé à proximité immédiate des centres d’intérêts, bars, restaurants, à quelques pas des arrêts de bus pour l’aéroport et autres destinations. Calme, propre. Seul bémol, l’ascenseur est très capricieux et fonctionne relativement peu souvent.

Unterkunft war in Summe ordentlich, auch in Bezug auf Ausstattung (AC, kleine Geschenke etc.). Leider waren die Fenster nicht wirklich schallgedämmt, sodass die nahe Bar/Disko mit ihrer Musik/Gästen vor der Tür uns den Schlaf geraubt haben.

I recently stayed three nights at Pier House, and loved it. The location was excellent, just a block from the center and the waterfront. The room was pleasant and spacious. The concierge, Andre, could not have been more friendly or helpful in providing airport transfer, car rental, and advice. He helped me squeeze the most out of my too-short time in Madeira. Thank you Andre!

Great place to stay in the middle of town, very clean and nice rooms with little touches like welcome chocolates. Next to amazing restaurants and cafes. Loved our stay overall, and would stay again, but be aware it’s above a nightclub that goes til past 4am on weekend. Bring ear plugs. Also, don’t expect host to reply to or remember messages via Expedia chat - get their number (different than the one posted) and call them directly to confirm things like parking and arrival time.

Pier house is not a hotel, guest house maybe? Positives Location, close to everything spacious rooms and nice decor, better then the photos Negatives The room ceiling vibrates when someone walks upstairs, even the top light moves, can be annoying when you want to sleep They require a deposit?! Nobody does this anymore, most hotels just scan your card Tv most channels don’t work Reception is not open as per the hours shown and they close for lunch Texted asking if we could leave the bags, was told yes, and when we got there they were closed for lunch break. Never heard of a hotel closing for lunch! They could have mentioned that !!!! So last day was a bit of a waste of time because couldn’t trust them to leave the bags and reception being open.

City Centre Gem

Pier House far exceeded our expectations. We spent 3 nights here because the hotel we wanted were fully booked. Pier House proved to be an excellent alternative- comfortable, clean and welcoming. We received a very warm and helpful welcome- staff did everything they possibly they could - including giving us a lift to collect our luggage from nearby hotel. The room was immaculate, modern with all the comforts of a modern hotel. We even had a scrumptious breakfast hamper delivered to our room each day. I feared the room might be a little noisy with it being a city centre, and I mean centre location, but it was actually ok. Yes there was a little street noise, but nothing significant. (I live in the middle of nowhere, with no noise and our stop was over New Year and there were still party goers returning at 9am) We slept fine. Would I return- yes, absolutely. If you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation in the very centre- best location for getting out and about during the day and night, then you really can’t go wrong here. Oh, and we had a lovely view too.

No sleep because of nightclub, poor communication

Clean rooms, comfortable bed, convenient location within Funchal. But the positives are lost on the poor customer service and complete lack of sleep. I could not sleep at all for four nights. The hotel is directly above a bar/night club that played pounding music until 4am one night, 2am other nights, including Sunday and Monday nights. It was impossible to sleep. The bedroom vibrated from the music bass. The hotel does not own the club so they have no control, but it’s the same building and can be heard and felt clearly. You will not sleep if you stay here. Poor customer service. To begin, the booking confirmation stated there was no front desk and to contact the property to make check-in arrangements. I tried to contact multiple times, they did not reply to messages. I eventually managed to get a response on the phone on the day of our arrival when the only instructions given were “call us when you arrive at the property”. When we arrived that evening, the person who answered the phone was unhappy and rude, telling us that he had needed to leave the supermarket to check us in – not at all welcoming to hotel guests. There was a huge deposit to pay each to "protect the hotel against damage". This was far too excessive, particularly as we had already paid for our stay in advance. After we left, one of the deposits had a deduction with no explanation. The hotel claim this is due to exchange rate, yet the other was refunded in full so it cannot be.

I want to thank Teresa and Andre for providing such wonderful service. There are no words to express my gratitude for their help outside of their working hours. My flight to Madeira was extremely delayed, and I arrived on the island at 4 a.m. Teresa stayed in touch with me and ensured Andre was ready to pick me up whenever I needed. Andre picked me up at the airport, safely delivered me to the hotel, checked me in, and helped me find my room. Additionally, my return flight was canceled, and I called Teresa at midnight, hoping to find an available room, and she answered! This was especially surprising, considering her working day ends at 6 p.m.! She picked up the phone, arranged for an apartment, and asked Andre to pick me up. The airport was packed with people who couldn’t find available rooms, and there were no taxis. Yet, I received luxury service by calling the right person in the middle of the night. They picked me up from the airport, settled me into the apartment, and didn’t take any money upfront! They simply said, “You can send a wire later.” I had a 35-hour flight delay. I was so exhausted and upset, and those two people were a blessing amidst all that disaster. Thank you so, so much again!
