Guests are not permitted on the Roof. We have exterior security camera on roof, guests who violate this rule will be asked to leave without refund.
The property has 5 levels and narrow stairs. We do not recommend staying if anyone has mobility constrains.
Damage to property will be charged to guests. The Shoe House is historic and we ask guests treat it with care. There is no dishwasher either. :)

We had such a unique and memorable stay at the Haines Shoe House in York! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how charming and well-maintained everything was. The house itself is such a fun and one-of-a-kind experience—our group couldn’t stop talking about how cool it was to actually stay inside a landmark.The space was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up with everything we needed. The hosts clearly put a lot of care into making guests feel welcome, and it showed in all the little details. It was the perfect mix of quirky and cozy.The location was also great—peaceful and relaxing, yet still close to everything we needed in the York area. Whether you’re looking for a fun getaway, a family trip, or something totally different, this is definitely a place we’d recommend.We’re so glad we had the chance to stay here and would absolutely come back again!

ToeTal fun...unique house with fun themed items back to the future decor. We celebrated a 6th birthday at the picnic tables by the firepit and it was great! We visited many years ago when it was a museum ice cream shop...and so happy this special house became a rental destination to enjoy with or without grandkids...but more fun to see the kids faces ..who now know the old lady who lived in a shoe did know what to do. The kids were impressed.

What a charming and memorable stay to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday. In the midst of snow, winds, and below zero temps, we stayed cozy just absorbing all the historic details and relics in the home— from the books, articles, to antique rotary phone and phonograph, there was plenty to take in. We cooked in and found all the supplies needed, then had a fantastic night of sleep in the well- appointed bedrooms.

I am so glad I was finally able to stay at the Shoe House. I've been looking forward to it for a very long time, and it was above and beyond what I expected. Great communication from the hosts and absolutely no complaints about the experience. I'm happy to now be a part of this unique history and would recommend to anyone looking for a fun and different getaway.

The heat worked well; great water pressure and hot water quickly.Did not use the hot tub.Enjoyed the festive holiday lights & decorations - very welcoming. The shoe was very, very clean & comfortable. Would have liked to have had a full length mirror in the main bedroom suite or upstairs living area. Great weekend visit!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this iconic landmark from my childhood. Highly recommend. The beds were comfortable plenty of blankets for the trundle, extra pillows well stocked with toilet paper and paper towels, and kitchen supplies. The temperature was easily controlled very private.

Highly recommend! We had a fabulous time staying here and learning the history! We spent our days exploring York and found great restaurants and independent vintage/antique stores. The house is super cozy and the hut tub was a bonus!

The Shoe fit!

Our stay in this delightful Shoehouse 14-!6 July 2025 was certainly a memorable relaxing treat. You have certainly thought of and met our every need. Beds comfortable, ac adjustable, linens plentiful---even make-up removable cloths. Loved the former ice cream parlor downstairs area (where I had enjoyed previously) as we played board games with tea and Keurig coffees and the convenience of yet another bathroom there. We are fond of shopping nearby in Intercourse and Bird in Hand, PA and truly enjoyed a VERY good meal at First Post (thanks for recommendation in your Guest book). Have shared photos of the SHOE with many and highly recommend they take advantage as sure they would enjoy the history of Mr. Haines" generosity, period pieces books, magazine, records, appliances ( many of which bring back fond memories. Recently saw The Shoe House featured on HGTV and knew it had won the plaque on the living room wall for its charming uniqueness. TOTALLY LOVED!! Karen Hannen, Gainesville, VA

Family get together

Had a wonderful time staying at the cozy shoehouse as we took a couple days to reunite with family after moving out of state. Spent 23 years in York visiting the shoe from time to time. It was very nostalgic inside and outside of the shoe. Unlike practically all shoes, this one did not stink.

4 Old Women Who Stayed in a Shoe

My 3 sister in laws and myself have talked about spending some time together. Now that we are all retired it finally was going to happen and what better place than in a shoe. I have looked at the Shoe House for years from Route 30 on my way to visit my sister in law in Lancaster. I had actually stopped and got ice cream with my future daughter in law on our way back from a family wedding. She actually was the one that called and told me that it was on VRBO for rent. It had everything we needed- Sleeping for 6, kitchen, big family room and even a hot tub and fire pit area. The house is magical. There are beautiful stained glass windows, renovated interiors and it’s cozy without feeling crowded. It exceeded our expectations and we had a wonderful time. I especially enjoyed all the history and old photographed displayed everywhere. It’s wonderful for a family with kids and even for 4 old ladies in a shoe. Thank you to the hosts for a one in a million opportunity to enjoy a truly one of a kind property.
