  • Welcome to Gingerbread Retreat, a colorful historic home in Walden that blends late 1800's character with thoughtful modern updates. This is the first phase of an ongoing renovation, so while many key spaces have been refreshed, the home still retains its original charm and evolving character.

    The home comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests. There are two bedrooms with full beds, a bunk room with two twin beds, a bonus room with two full beds, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room.

    The kitchen has been updated and is set up for group meals, with a full-size range and refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, tea kettle, and all the cookware, dishes, and basics you'll need during your stay. A washer and dryer are also available for guest use.

    While there is no traditional dining table, guests can gather comfortably in the living room using provided TV trays and folding charirs, making it easy to share meals together in a relaxed setting.

    The living room is designed for downtime, with a comfortable seating area, a queen sleeper sofa, board games, books, and extra blankets and pillows. You'll also find unique touches throughout the home that reflect its history, including a display of items uncovered during the renovation work.

    The full bathroom features a walk-in shower and fresh towels and toiletries for your stay. A second half bathroom adds extra convenience for larger groups.

    Outside, guests can enjoy a large, fenced yard that's great for families and dogs, along with a grill and simple outdoor seating area.

    Gingerbread Retreat works well as a home base for families, hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, and groups visiting North Park. It's a place to unwind, enjoy the space, and experience a bit of Walden history with modern comfort.

    A few notes: the home has some original historic quirks, and entry is through the back door, along with all the parking. Full check-in details will be provided before arrival. The home accommodates up to 10 guests, and up to two dogs are welcome with a pet fee. Smoking is not permitted inside.

The accommodations were great. We had a group of 11 and did feel cramped in like a can of sardines. The location was great for us as a home base for what we had planned. The host was fantastic and quick with responses to questions. I highly recommend this listing. I will use again if needed in the future.

Great house, thoughtfully decorated and full of amenities. Great location. Comfortable bed. Very large yard. (Just a quick note that there are 2 big dogs on one side, so if your dog is reactive, might be a little tricky. I always look for this heads up in reviews, though not to take anything away from this awesome house!) Great location, walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in Walden. Convenient, secure parking. Highly recommend!

The host seemed extremely nice, and the place was great for me and my buddies, we ended up having 6 guys that spent a weekend. 2 of the Bedrooms are spaced out a little bit which is nice if you have snorers, everything worked as expected, and there was a good pile of firewood next to the wood burner for the cold nights! Beds/pillows were to my liking as well, comfy!

Great location in downtown Walden. Easy to walk to Main Street. Great host. Felt pretty spacious. Would recommend some cups/glasses/plates in the kitchen and the kitchen needed some help with cabinet and fridge cleaning.

Ginger Bread House

Overall the house was comfortable and served our purposes for our stay in Waldon. We enjoyed staying in the house. The Managers were friendly. They promptly responded when we had an inquiry. We all enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate by ok’ing again.

Old rustic cabin

Very comfortable little house. But it is an old cabin that has been added on to, and only one bathroom. Worked great for our hunting group of 7 (5 hunters and 2 kids). Great location in downtown Walden. Property managers very helpful and responsive. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice yard and Fence!

The cabin was roomy. The list of deferred maintenance items was quite long.Repairs are costly and not fun, but sometimes you have to do them.The owner was very niceEverything was clean but the oven was pretty bad.Best fence and yard ever!

While clean, quiet and sufficient the house is not well suited for the elderly. We had 2 over 70 in our party. The bunk beds were also a surprise.

It was a nice, although slightly outdated, cabin. Be prepared that there is not a way of circulating air, because windows don't open, but after getting a cross-breeze, from the front and back doors, in the evenings it cooled quickly, which was welcomed after days in the upper 90s. We appreciated the space, number of rooms/beds for our group of 9. The host was great and answered almost of my questions.

Cozy

It was a great fit for our large family plus the mother in law. The character of the old house with the extra details of the tree for hanging clothes, white Christmas lights and a wood stove made it very inviting and cozy. The only thing that my mother in law said that would make it better is having some extra mirrors in the bedrooms so folks could do their makeup or hair outside of the one bathroom available.

Cozy historic house in moose county

The house was just what we were looking for with our trip to Colorado and hopes of seeing a moose. The historic house had the charms and quirks that come with a building that old. We appreciated the abundance of rooms and beds, and the kids appreciated the wi-fi That said, if you are looking for a rental with a well equipped kitchen this might not be your choice. There are pots and pans, but some basics like cutting boards are not to be found Even with that, we would go back again for the close access to State Forest State Park and Mt. Zirkel Wilderness.
