I recently stayed at DoubleTree by Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront South and had a mixed experience, especially considering the price of the room.
On the downside, the room itself fell short of expectations. It did not appear to be thoroughly cleaned, and there was noticeable paint peeling in the bathroom. An access panel near the toilet was left open, which was unsettling at first glance. The shower dispensers were empty - no body wash or shampoo - which shouldn’t happen at this level.
Another challenge was the noise. There was a band playing on the boardwalk until around 11:00 p.m. each night. While this wasn’t the hotel’s fault, the sound carried significantly into the room and made it difficult to relax in the evenings.
The elevator system was also frustrating. Having to use the room key to access floors is understandable for security, but the digital key feature never worked properly for elevator access, which became an ongoing inconvenience.
That said, there were definitely positives. The oceanfront location is excellent, with beautiful views right from the room. The attached restaurant, Mahi's Seafood and Sushi Salads, was outstanding and easily one of the highlights of the stay. The hotel staff were also consistently friendly, helpful, and made check-in very easy.
Overall, while the location and staff were great, the condition of the room and a few operational issues made the stay feel underwhelming for the price paid.
