On the beach, a private pool, a house all to yourself.

The rare thing about Barefoot Bungalow is the privacy. You don't share a pool or the deck. You have the house, pool, yard and deck completely to yourself. Our Bungalow is located on the tranquil island of Vieques. Our three bedroom, 2 bath home is tastefully furnished in a relaxed, comfortable bungalow style. The property offers an array of amenities, including a pool for your use only, a deck overlooking the ocean, BBQ, washer and dryer, hammock and, of course, the beautiful blue sea a few steps from your doorstep. You can hear the crashing waves from your bedroom and still be surrounded by the tranquility of your own yard. Wake up in the morning and sit outside on your private patio, looking out over the waves at the islands of Culebra, Puerto Rico and on a clear day, St. Thomas, while you sip your coffee. Listen to the sounds of the surf breaking in the evening as the sun sets while you stroll in the sand looking for shells and sea glass, or lie peacefully swinging in the hammock.

Lounge by Pool: What can be more luxurious and refreshing than a dip in your own pool after a long day at the beach? Not much. Lounge in the sun, enjoy the lush tropical foliage, and maybe read a good book. Sit under the fountain and let the water splash over you. Watch the sea gulls and pelicans fly overhead and spot the iguana family that comes to feed on the hibiscus and sun on the wall. Take a night time dip and float on your back and gaze up at the stars.

Easy Living: Two of the things that our guests comment on most frequently are the great night's sleep they experience in our comfortable beds, and the luxurious sheets and towels we provide in abundance. We strive hard to make your experience the vacation you want it to be with a fully equipped kitchen (to help you prepare your fresh-caught seafood), air conditioning in all the rooms, and an outside dining area to enjoy the breeze off the ocean.
Note: Although we suffered some damage from Hurricane Maria, many of the island's inhabitants suffered much more. Three of the cottages next to us were totally destroyed. They are slowly trying to rebuild, and we applaud their positive attitudes and "can do" spirit.

Everything about this property was wonderful! Just the right amount of space, clean, and had everything we needed. Beach walks, snorkeling on the beach, horses everywhere, and the perfect jumping off point for Vieques adventures! We hope to be back!

Tropical Get-a-Way 2025

I would definitely come back to this location. The house is perfect! Just the right size for our party. Pool was nice and sheltered from the constant ocean breeze. Morning coffee or afternoon cocktail on the patio was a treat. Some day's the biggest question was "beach or pool". Great beachcombing on "our" beach if not truly suitable for swimming. The property manager was very friendly and helpful when we arrived. The welcome basket was a nice touch. Plan to return in 2027. Note: if you take the ferry, bring a sweater.

Perfect location for relaxing and seeing Vieques

We were a party of 3 and the location and house was perfect for us but could accommodate more as well. You really cannot get a better location - you hear the beach at night and sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean was perfect. The house has all the amenities you need and the Wifi worked well for the most part (one day it was spotty but not a huge issue), as did the AC although you don't really need it as there is a breeze. The owners are extremely responsive and the house manager as well. Neighbor is friendly and we felt safe at all times. To be able to get up and walk on the beach cannot be overstated! We realized that we had stayed in this exact location 20 years ago under a different owner but I think this visit was the best yet! We love Vieques and will be back. Thank you!

A BAREFOOT BUNGALOW! Clean! Loved it!

VERY clean house, pristine private pool, well-appointed kitchen, PLENTY of towels and sheets, right on the beach, well-organized, hidden gem. WE WILL BE BACK! We woke each morning to the sound of WAVES and we would make breakfast and eat it outside watching the tide. We felt very secure with the coded fence and the friendly neighbors. We can not say enough for this perfectly groomed 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. This is a short drive from the grocery store and shops. Perfect for us as we dont care for town-noise. Also! We were usually the ONLY people at the beach behind the house. We felt very priveledged to stay at this gorgeous home on Vieques!femce and the frieny

Relax to the max

Absolutely loved the location! Beautiful beach out the front door, secluded swimming pool in the backyard, far enough from town to have some "quiet", but close enough to get everywhere easily. The house is well equipped with cooking supplies, games and books. The bed was comfortable. We would have been happy just hanging out at the bungalow for our entire stay!

Absolutely Perfect

We loved everything about our stay here. The hosts thought of everything, from the beach chairs and umbrella to the board games. Falling asleep to the ocean every night was wonderful. We made it a point to take a walk along the beach every morning and every morning since it was right there. The house was in a safe area so you felt secure being there.

Beautiful spot with everything

We stayed as a family with small children and found the house had everything we could need or want and was well maintained. The description really says it all. The hosts and the property manager were exceptional. When we arrived, the pack and play was missing a piece, which our property manager went out and got another piece that night to fix it for our use. Also, I found the grill unusable one morning and she had fixed it that afternoon for me to use. And we lost wifi (not that we should be using it at a location with this much natural beauty) and the tech was out in two hours to fix it. Very impressed!

Great house

This is a great property! We had a few minor issues but the owners were VERY responsive and took care of things immediately. They do a check-in so check your VRBO account, that was very nice! The property manager was not available due to an emergency so not her fault at all. I think we just didn't pick the best time of year. It was stormy and the beach in front of the house was rough so we couldn't use it very much. Bring water shoes there is some coral and rocks on the edge when you get in. The pool is so nice and there is a washer and dryer (we didn't use the washer but the dryer is very good). There is a lot of dish ware and extras. If you had six people you would be good for probably 3 meals! (there is not a dishwasher, just FYI) The AC and fans in the house are excellent! We actually had to put them to a warmer temp because we were getting cold. The water is set also so you won't burn yourself if a kiddo turned up the water to high, I liked this feature. It was tricky getting there it's in a tucked away neighborhood but google maps did bring us right there. The roads in general are very narrow, including the driveway and getting in through the gate, don't rent too big of a car! Would highly recommend this home!

Amazing again

This is our second time renting from Michael and Gail. They are the most hospitable hosts we’ve ever had very responsive. Their house manager was great. The location is perfect. Amazing to be able to wake up every morning and drink our coffee sitting outside hearing the ocean, we can’t wait to return again.

Just as Advertised!

Five of us stayed at the house for a week. The house was clean and very comfortable! There is very easy access to the beach and a beautiful view from the patio in the yard. There are beach chairs and a cooler at the house as well as a bbq grill. There are lots of games and puzzles at the house if it rains while you’re there. The beach in front of the house is great for snorkeling, and if you go around the little point to the right, there’s a nice spot to gather sea glass. The hosts are the most responsive I have ever dealt with! They have a property manager if you need anything during your stay but if you need to reach the owners, they will get back to you pretty quickly!!!! We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay there again!

Family Vacation Getaway

The location is great, I really liked listening to the ocean waves it was so relaxing. The pool is nice and private. The living room and bedrooms were ok, the extra linens and towels were just thrown in a closet on top of some house hold supplies. The kitchen is in need of some organizing The pans, dishes and utensils were just kind of placed here and there. The convection oven made some loud nosies and the gas grill knobs were very difficult to turn when lighting and adjusting the flame. We still had a great vacation.

Wonderful place to stay with the ocean just steps away.

We loved this house & location! We have stayed in Vieques many times & this is our favorite place. The host was lovely & charming & made us feel at home immediately upon arrival. The house was cozy & comfortable with everything needed for our 10 day stay. We like to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed. We loved grilling fresh fish & eating outside by the ocean. Beds were comfortable and the house was IMMACULATELY clean. Wi-Fi works great. What really shines is the location & grounds! The house is very private & just steps from a beautiful beach on the Atlantic side. The beach is essentially private- we only saw one other couple the whole time we were there. We could hear the ocean from our bedroom and slept with the curtains open to wake up to glorious sunrises. The front yard is beautiful and peaceful with spectacular ocean views and a hammock perfect for lazy afternoon naps. The pool on the backside of the house was great for afternoon swims after the beach. It was magical to walk by the ocean at night under a canopy of stars. For us, The front yard was a calm space for reading and relaxing and the pool was the “party” zone with beach music and frozen drinks. This property is exactly as it is represented in the pictures. It is just minutes to Isabel Segunda (the main town), grocery stores, restaurants and shops. About a 10 minute drive to our favorite beaches Sunbay and Media Luna. We would love to return to this sweet place again and again. ☀️🏝️🌊

Great place to stay!

The bungalow was just what I’d hoped for, and had everything that we could need, from beach chairs to a new coffee pot. Elizabeth who I assume is the property manager was a delight! She was very helpful, kind and informative about the area. 10 out of 10 would stay here again! The welcome basket that was left for us was a very pleasant surprise.

Beach front cabana needs updating

The beach front location is amazing. Walk right out front yard to a quiet beach, good for waking but a little rocky for swimming. Ocean waves lull you to sleep. But the house is dated and needs updating. The couches had broken springs, a couple window fixtures were broken, the kitchen has old appliances, the place needs TLC to live up to its potential. Beautiful beachfront property with easy access to beach. Property has its own yard and swimming pool. Yard also has picnic table and another eating area looking over the ocean. Very beautiful comfortable home for our family!

Amazing spot!

The bungalow was beautiful and well kept, especially in the tropics where I know it can be challenging. It was clean and had everything we needed from the kitchen to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and living space. It was a very quiet neighborhood not a far drive from Isabel. A car/vehicle was definitely needed so I am glad we had a rental. We enjoyed walking the beach right out front every morning, found a ton of beach glass and shells. The pool was lovely at the end of the day to cool off after a long day at the beach. A few bits of feedback: the two-seater love seat has a spring that is poking up. It hasn’t broken the fabric but it is a bit sharp for anyone who sits on that seat. The toaster seemed to be stuck in “bagel” mode and would only toast on one side. We just flipped our bread to toast both sides which worked fine. The outside porch area overlooking the ocean would have been more enjoyable if the bushes had been trimmed down so we could see the water while sitting. But I also understand that they may have just overgrown over time, they kind of looked like the type of plant that grows fast.
