This Alpine retreat is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. It offers sweeping, in-your-face views of the Cimarrons to the east and 13-14,000 peaks of the San Juan range to the south.

The home is perfect for families, couples, or groups of friends. It includes 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a great room, a game room, and a dining room spread over two stories. Upstairs offers expansive views and includes a master bedroom, kitchen, and great room. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to cook your favorite meals, including pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and appliances. It is well-provisioned with non-perishables, including quality spices/seasonings, cooking oil, sugar, and flour. The large deck offers stunning views of the mountains and is perfect for enjoying a morning cup of coffee, afternoon barbeque, or a glass of wine at sunset.

Downstairs includes 2 bedrooms, a well-stocked game room, and a full bath. A washer and dryer are in a separate laundry room. All bedrooms are equipped with humidifiers to help ensure your comfort in the dry mountain air.

The home is in a quiet neighborhood, just minutes from hiking and off-road trails. While secluded, it is readily accessible to the valley below. Downtown Ridgway has restaurants, shops, and groceries and is about 8 miles (20 minutes) on a well-maintained dirt and gravel road. Charming Ouray is a 30-minute drive through the spectacular Uncompahgre River valley.

You will feel like you are on top of the world. If you are lucky, you’ll see an afternoon shower, followed by clouds in the valley below and a double rainbow! At 8,900 feet elevation, the home offers breathtaking alpine beauty, ample groves of Aspens, and abundant wildlife. You will likely see plenty of deer, including those visiting in the front yard. You may also see bobcats, bald eagles, coyotes, elk, or even glimpse a black bear. In the quiet of the mountains, you may connect with the gentle sounds of nature and, on a clear night, see the night sky in all its wonder.

The house is heated by an electric-powered hydronic radiant heating system, which is both efficient and environmentally friendly. The electricity for the heating system is generated by solar panels on the roof, so you can feel good knowing that you're helping to reduce your carbon footprint on your vacation. The house is super well insulated and was constructed using green building practices, such as using recycled materials and energy-efficient appliances.

Around 15’ away from the nearest town, tucked away in the mountains, this property was better than expected. We crossed path with deer daily, a small family of 3 would show up at the front of the house every morning. The place is very spacious, well stocked, perfect layout to keep the teens downstairs with their own bathroom and TV/video game room. Although we didn’t need help from Bill, he was checking in us every other day and was fast to reply. We would definitely come back. The road (specially in winter) might not be suitable for cars that are not 4x4.

We spent three nights during the turning of the Aspens to bright yellows. The view from the deck is beautiful and can be seen inside in the family room or outside on the deck. Very comfortable home and communication with the owner was very easy. Would stay again.

We used the Elk Meadows home as a base for exploring the San Juans many off-road trails accessible from Hwy 550 and couldn’t have been more pleased. The property was clean and comfortable in every regard and to say the kitchen was well stocked is an understatement. Bill did a great job of communicating any need-to-know information and was quick to respond with any questions. I have no reservations recommending Elk Meadows whether as a base for exploring or just relaxing and enjoying the panoramic views without going anywhere.

Lovely house at the end of a 20 minute trek out of the town. Secure area. Wonderful views for morning coffee on the deck. Mountain air at night is cool. Day is hot in summer. Surprised at first no AC. BUT sleeping at night was good. Only surprise was how far away from town the house really is. Great host though.

This house was such a great home base after our days of exploring the area. It was comfortable and more than enough room for our family of three. Bill was fantastic to deal with; always responding quickly with detailed information. Definitely a highlight of the trip for us was a bear visiting the yard twice! I would absolutely stay here again!

My family and I really enjoyed our recent stay at the Elk Meadows home. The property was spacious, clean, comfortable and well-provisioned for the needs of our family with the kids liked the fast internet. The views, particularly of the San Juan mountains and night sky were spectacular. It is true that the property requires quite a drive off the main highway (about 20 minutes), but it's worth it for the privacy and views. The roads are also well maintained and easy to drive in the summer. We'll definitely consider this property for future stays in the area.

We had a great experience at the Elk Meadows property over New Years. The house is very well done with the kind of high end custom finishes you don't expect from a vacation rental. The straw bale construction is super warm and insulative and the views from the property are unbeatable! Absolutely gorgeous property and house. The driveway is very steep and even given the light snow this year was a bit dicey. People uncomfortable driving in winter snowy conditions on snow packed dirt roads may find access challenging. Us mountain folk loved the location however and would've been more stoked only if there was more snow! Oh well, next time, hope to be back!

This home was extremely clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The views from the deck were beautiful and the large windows were perfect for star gazing. The rooms were large with plenty of room for a family. The location was convenient to Ridgway, Telluride, and Ouray. We enjoyed finding the True Grit locations.

This is a fabulous house with plenty of space, beautiful views and the house is well equipped with all kinds of extras to use during a stay. The property manager, Bill, was awesome - always available with prompt responses and assistance. Our group loved staying at this property, we enjoyed playing in the Ridgway and Ouray area and we cannot wait to return to the area and stay at Elk Meadows again.

This house was perfect for a couple and a family of four. The ground floor has two bedrooms, a living area and a full bath. Just right for young kids. The master bedroom was lovely and just right for a couple. The view was spectacular! The location gave us great access to Ouray, Silverton, Norwood and Telluride. The beds were comfortable. the kitchen had lots of pans, silverware, dishes and utensils. The washer/dryer was really helpful. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Overall this property has an amazing location tucked up away from town but convenient to Telluride, Ouray, and Ridgway. The views are spectacular and the house amenities are all inclusive. Hiking, 4 wheeling, and MTB trails are located just down county road 5 for easy access. Tons of wildlife around for your viewing pleasure. We would 100% stay here again.
