Cosy Cotswold Cottage in Old Stroud

Step back in time with this cosy grade 2 listed 17th century Cotswold cottage. Nestled in historic Old Stroud, local legend has it that two brothers shared the bigger house but needed separate homes when one of them married, so Corner Cottage and 2 Trinity Road were born.

Packed with original features, stone walls, oak beams and wonky elm wooden floorboards, Corner Cottage oozes old world charm. Relax after a day in the Cotswolds or visiting local sights, warming yourself in front of the fire.

The cottage boasts a handmade kitchen fully equipped with top quality appliances, including Neff induction hob and oven, Miele dishwasher, fridge, and Smeg kettle and toaster.

Separating the lounge and kitchen is a sunny breakfast room featuring an original 1950’s dresser and four-seater dining table. On warmer days the inviting courtyard catches the afternoon sun and is perfect for an alfresco meal.

At the top of the stairs the open plan bedroom features a comfortable double bed and wardrobe. In keeping with the owners’ eco values, all bedding is from sustainable or recycled sources, with organic cotton and linen sheets and duvet set.

The bathroom provides a large drench shower and white ceramics.

Less than a ten minute downhill walk away lies Stroud high street – through the old quarter, past Piccadilly Mill and the original weavers’ cottages – where you’ll find an eclectic host of independent shops and cafés, and on Saturday mornings, Stroud’s award-winning farmers' market, independent pub and restaurants. And five minutes further on, Stroud’s mainline railway train station with direct trains to London in as little as 1hr 30 minutes.

Guests self check-in and check out via a lock-box and have exclusive use of the whole cottage.

Corner Cottage really is a great base for exploring the Cotswolds, with the walks of Stroud’s famous five valleys on your doorstep - The Heavens and Swifts Hill, Daisy Bank, the Slad Valley and a stop for cider at Laurie Lee’s Woolpack Inn.

The newly restored Stroudwater canal lies just five minutes away offering beautiful flat walks, passing several old textile mills - the origins of the fine red woollen cloth worn by the Redcoats at the Battle of Waterloo, snooker table baize, and tennis balls - right through to the Gloucestershire and Sharpness canal and the Severn. Or heading east to one of Stroud’s brewing gems, the organic Stroud Brewery for great beer and entertainment.

Home to early origins of the Chartist movement, the industrial revolution, the arts and crafts movement and Extinction Rebellion, Stroud has a growing reputation for free thinking and non-conformity.

Stroud’s numerous music venues pull in some superb acts. And Stroud has a healthy festival scene - Good on Paper, the Book Festival, Jazz Festival, Theatre Festival, Festival of Nature, Food Festival, Open Gardens, Open Studios, Hidden Notes, Sacred Music, and even a Harp and Storytelling Festival.

There's no TV, but the wifi is more than capable of streaming your favourite programme or a film onto your device.
