Indisposition and rudeness defined our experience with the reception staff at Hotel Le Roy. We arrived at 10am and politely asked whether a room might be ready before the official check-in time, as we were travelling with our 88-year-old grandmother. The hotel had been booked specifically for daytime use so she could rest before a late-night flight. The morning receptionist said the room would be prioritised and contacted housekeeping.
Throughout the day we followed up several times, only to be pushed back repeatedly and met with increasing animosity from another receptionist. The helpful staff member from the morning was no longer on duty, and despite remaining polite, the same courtesy was not returned.
At 3:58pm, with a confirmation stating a 3pm check-in, I was told the time had changed and that only one room was ready. An email sent three days earlier mentioned a 4pm check-in, which went unnoticed, though the hotel had been chosen specifically for its earlier check-in. When I pointed out that it was nearly 4pm, I received dismissive and illogical responses suggesting nothing was guaranteed.
The room was not ready until 4:18pm. Upon entering, we found facial hair in the sink and no soap in the dispenser. The second room was similarly disappointing. Restaurant service was slow, items were out of stock, and dishes arrived missing ingredients without warning. While the food was pleasant, the overall experience was a waste of money and a disappointing end to our holiday.
