The house itself is beautiful and stylishly decorated!The location is also wonderful. This is my 20th summer in Saugatuck. I usually come once a year for the last 20 years staying at different properties around the town. This one was high on my list. I would definitely recommend it to friends and clients the overall was great !There was construction on the first floor, where the furniture showroom is, which started very early in the morning, so I couldn’t sleep in pretty much my only complaint

Great location to visit South Haven, Douglas and Saugatuck from! the layout of the house is really nice. the beds are very comfortable and the backyard very serene. Would definitely stay there again

Unfortunately, we had several issues. First, the bathroom in the master bedroom was nice but impractical. There was no where to set stuff down while getting ready. The trough sink was cool but there was no shelving. There was a cabinet next to the sink but it was wooden with a large door. Not very practical for a toothbrush, face wash etc. The duvet cover and blanket in the master bedroom were stained. I am sure they were clean but they did not look very nice. When we finally tried to tap into WiFi the second night we were there, it did not work. The property management team responded quickly when we texted late at night and tried to help. When nothing worked, we were told they would get on it first thing in the morning. We heard nothing after that and never had WiFi during our stay. Then to top things off, two mornings we woke to construction noise below us since the art gallery is being converted into another rental unit. We did not expect on site construction noise. We could hear voices and music while they were working. It was not a very peaceful stay. Thankfully, we were busy and gone much of the time. Had we being hanging out in the rental unit, we would have been much more upset by all the commotion below. The unit was way overpriced considering the issues we had. We would not recommend staying here at least until all construction is done which seems like it will be a while. They are converting the downstairs as well as a barn in the back to rental units.

Memorial Day weekend stay

Excellent property. Located just under a mile into downtown Saugatuck. Easy walk which we did both days we were there. Beautiful backyard which we and our dog thoroughly enjoyed. Had a small issue upon check in but property manager was immediately responsive and handled the situation. Would definitely stay at this property again in the future.

Great Spot

Overall the space was pretty good. The location above the gallery is very unique and cool. The beds were comfortable and sheets/towels were great quality. We loved being right next to the restaurant/coffee shop. We had 2 meals there during our stay. A couple things to note is the master bedroom has no door between the bathroom and the bedroom which we didn’t love. But made due. You do have to go up quite a bit of stairs to get into the unit. One suggestion for the property managers/owner would be to provide parking passes as people going to the restaurant tend to not park in the correct spot & it would help the gallery owner who’s managing the parking spots to know that you can park in the designated resident parking. It’s not right down town but easy to get there and convenient to a lot of things in the area. We would recommend this place again.

Great place, Great location

We loved staying at Roan and Black. It’s decorated beautifully, lots of space, great kitchen, and comfy beds. It’s conveniently located, we were within 5 minutes of the water and town. There’s a nice path across the street and we easily walked into town for dinner. It was the perfect space for 4 of us. We will definitely be back!

Perfect location

We enjoyed the location of this lovely apartment over the Roan and Black art gallery. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for our family. However if you wanted to go into town it's only a 20 minute walk into Saugatuck and steps away from Pennyroyal restaurant. We also brought bikes to ride into town on the bike path right across the street. It's an ideal spot!

Loved it!

We loved our stay at Roan & Black! It’s a beautiful space - the art, the design, the location. Super comfortable and clean, and an excellent location. The owners and staff in the store were so kind and had excellent recommendations for the area. My sister and I were in town for a a weekend of quilting and we would not have changed a thing about our stay. Hope to be back!

A quiet escape

A peaceful condo just outside of downtown Saugutuck! Located in an apartment above the Roan & Black gallery, you are next to the popular Pennyroyal Cafe (a daily stop for us for our morning coffee) and across the street from a long running / bike trail. The home is filled with amazing artwork from some of the same artists featured in the gallery below. Our shiba enjoyed walking the beautiful back yard, the trail across the street and River Bluff Park which is a short drive / walk away.

A Quiet Retreat Away from the Crowds

Located just outside of downtown Saugutuck, Roan & Black offers an opportunity to step away from the crowded streets and simply relax. The home is adorned with amazing artwork and sits above an incredibly curated gallery. And the backyard is a beautiful space to walk. It was just the peace and quiet we needed, and the owners were just fantastic.

Urban Vibes

Beautiful property, the gardens were incredible, and the condo was meticulously decorated. It was a good fit for our family of 3 plus our pooch. It is on the second floor, so make sure you can manage hauling bags up the stairs. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms well, they were totally cool! The kitchen has everything you might need. It is close to trails and a twenty minute walk to town:)

Absent communication during and after stay - AVOID

Place itself was great - convenient location, overall kept in pretty good shape, lots of character. During our stay, we had three issues. The first was that there not an insignfiicant number of ants running around the unit. Not a horrible problem, given the rustic location, but certainly something that I hope gets addressed for future stays. The second is that the dishwasher was both not functional and moldy. The third was there was a rotting chair frame on the balcony - some splintered and sharp edges, which was a bit concerning, since we have small children and a dog with us. Now all of things are not a huge deal, but when I reached out to Vacasa - the property management group - I never heard a repsonse from them. It's now been about a week and a half since our stay and numerous text messages, emails, and phone calls with Vacasa's central call center and I have not had any followup about issues. Best situation would be to have contact with local management during the stay, but a followup after the stay would be the bare minimum. While the place is nice and unique and the location is great, I would avoid staying at this place - because if you have any issues during your stay, communicating with staff is difficult and would be concerned any issues won't get addressed.

Found bloodstained bed linens on departure

I will start with the positives because the property is beautiful, comfortable, bright, a pleasure to sit in and enjoy drinks outside. One thing worth a mention there is no door between the fabulous master bathroom and bedroom. And the 2nd bedroom is small and limited. We had met the owner in the gallery downstairs who gave us restaurant recommendations, but home issues had to go through Vacasa. The negatives left a bad taste and were not resolved. Firstly the dishwasher was broken, but there was no mention of this even though Nico the cleaner said this was the case for 2 weeks. Calls to Vacasa on the number posted in the property resulted in no return calls. We eventually called an emergency number and the rep was very helpful Secondly I sat on the loungers outside and went straight through. The wooden slats were completely rotten and the cushions were placed over them. This could have resulted in serious injury. Thirdly the sun porch was full of dust and cobwebs by the windows which should have been wiped. The worst discovery was when I was stripping the bed on departure: the underside of the comforter had bloodstains. We were repulsed and very upset. I saw Nico who came to clean and he gave me 2 more numbers for Vacasa. 48 hours now and no return phone call. Vacasa has been extremely elusive and I will continue to find a human being. I would not normally leave a negative review, but Vacasa has given me no choice as there is no one to communicate with! Overall review: wonderful property but the housekeeping and property management and communication fell way short.

Saugatuck Weekend

This is our second stay at this property. Everything is as advertised. Clean, artsy, convenient! Love the firepit area and the restaurant next door (Pennyroyal Cafe and Provisions). We will return!

Relaxing stay

We had a wonderful stay with perfect weather. The house and grounds are as described and very nicely done. It was great that we could bring our Mia (golden retriever) along to stay with us. The restaurant next door is an added bonus! Our only issue was with the road noise which put a bit of a damper on the peace/serenity of the place. Overall, we had a great time!!

Great stay in Saugatuck

My husband and I traveled to Saugatuck for a long weekend and we really enjoyed our stay. The apartment was very well maintained and there were a lot of interesting pieces of art throughout. We loved the restaurant next door and the gallery downstairs. Would highly recommend!
