Historic 1895 Pent House apartment with amaizin Ocean Views

This special place is close to everything. It is the perfect location to explore all the beautiful historic Old San Juan sites, directly across the street from the San Cristobal Fortress on the corner of Calle del Sol and Norzagaray Streets. Authentic Puerto Rican restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, and souvenir shops are only steps from the property. The airport is only a 15-minute Uber ride; Condado and Isla Verde Beach are only 10 minutes away. DISCLOSURE: This is a penthouse apartment on the fifth floor. There are no elevators; guests must be able to climb 63 stairs to access the apartment. It's important to keep this in mind when making this reservation. The building does not have a power generator; if there is a power outage, the apartment will be without AC and lights. We will not refund for utility outages. On-street parking is free but limited and is not available overnight. Street parking will get hefty tickets overnight, but during the day, it is free.

There are many electrical hazards, including a newer outlet above the shower head in the shower. The water Taste like mold A bunch of the windows Do not work and stay open, so there is only. Air conditioning in the bedrooms.

Great Location

Quiet Location with a nice view. Historic property, comfortable and clean. You need to climb some stairs with your luggage but there are landings to rest at and its worth the climb. It is quiet and clean, away from the noise but close to the action.

Beautiful View - definitely has charm

We stayed the last 2 nights of our 8 day trip in this apartment. It has very cool views out the front windows. The lack of AC in main space is common and didn’t bother us, the AC in the bedrooms worked well. Would recommend new bed linens/coverings etc but everything was clean. No coffee maker but I didn’t mind because learned how to use a French Press. Cute neighborhood with fabulous restaurant and also a cute (locals) bar down the street. I would stay here again.

NOT THE PLACE LISTED! TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION

I reached out to the host awaiting check in instructions - heard nothing until after check in time so we were already in Old Town San Juan having dinner. The host finally responded that there had been a pipe problem and sent us to another place 1 bedroom 1 bath no where near old town. nowhere near Old Town. WHETOWN.

Beautiful View; Had to use bottled water to flush the toilet

Old San Juan may typically have power or water outages for an hour or two, but we lacked any running water for our entire 3-day stay - and it’s humid. Great view, but very worn property. Try elsewhere. We stayed for 3 days during a festival, which closed down VSJ to all traffic. After the trek across town and uphill, we stood in the streets locked out until a neighbor took pity on us. A new lock was installed on the building, and the VRBO listing was not updated with the door code. Finally inside, we found the unit hadn’t been turned over yet - understandable given the cleaners also had to travel by foot. They came through that evening. Unfortunately, cleaning must have used the last of the water from the back of the toilet. …By the second day, we became proficient at purchasing gallon water jugs and carrying them up the hill to avoid making the cleaner’s life even worse. Although the host helped us with the code and the cleaner issues after the fact, it was clear our reservation fees did not cover running water. I would recommend the owners to replace the grimy/corroded knobs, switches, and fixtures in the unit - and to get a backup water tank like the rest of the neighborhood seems to have.

No Water

We showed up to a locked gate and had to be let in by a passing mailman. When we finally got in to the apartment we found there was no running water.. no working sink, no working shower, no working toilet. Our contact Victor, moved us to a beautiful location the next day but this first apartment was rough.

Had to move spots, but worked out

I was stoked to be staying in the heart of Old San Juan, but unfortunately there was an issue with the apartment that required I be moved to a new location. The host was gracious in offering me an equally nice place to stay which was still pretty convenient to where I wanted to explore. Over all, it is unfortunate I couldn’t stay here, but if there is any problems, trust they will be resolved with integrity.

Perfect for my needs

I just slept and showered here during my stay in Old San Juan. It really wasn't that bad. The air conditioning and the windows leaked a little bit. And I found a roach one night. But the bedding was clean. The towels were clean and I felt safe. Victor was always communicative and easy to get ahold of.The gate instructions on the VRBO listing need to be updated. They were not accurate when I arrived.

Amazing location

Perfect location with view of water and fort and walkable to everything. We loved it. There are lots of stairs to go up and no elevator. But as long as you’re okay w that it’s perfect for exploring old San Juan.

Great location

Amazing view, great location, had everything we needed besides full house air conditioning. This is on the 5 th floor (without elevator) ) lots of steps but view is amazing! It has air conditioning in the bedrooms only so the place it self is steamy (but typical for Puerto Rico) We came looking for a place to stay that was part of the culture and historic feel. This place is it!

Old San Juan Apartment

Small apartment on the top floor that can fit 3-4 people in my opinion. Great view from the living room! Everywhere in Old San Juan is walkable from here. Kind of confusing entry gate, it doesn't lock. That's the only issue I can point out. Nice owner/manager.

Beautiful Location

Old San Juan is stunning and this property fit right in. It is a charming apartment! We never did determine which lock box held the keys to the property - we tried them all without success. Luckily the gate was unlocked and the apartment door had a punch code lock. The apartment could use a good cleaning, one of the front windows fixed so it can be opened for more air flow, the check out instructions on VRBO and in the apartment could be updated to match each other and new, unstained mattresses in the bedrooms. There was so much to see and do in Old San Juan!

Suited our needs

The location of the property was fantastic. Getting into the building was a bit confusing and the directions for entering the building should be updated. The bedroom AC units worked well, and it was pretty quiet inside the apartment as well.

Wonderful views

Great location in old San Juan. Easy access to all activities. Beautiful views of the ocean from the living room. Great space for the family. Parking difficult, but this is Old San Juan it’s difficult everywhere. Would stay here again.

Things to understand about this unit

To begin with, it is important that anyone renting this unit understands what is in the disclosures and that there is no elevator, and it is 63 steps to the unit from the street. It makes checking in with luggage a challenge. Also, if you’re coming from the commercial section, there’s about a 300-yard steep uphill climb to Sol St. It was difficult to unload as there is hardly any parking places available on the street, even during the day. Parking overnight in the nearest garage as an additional cost of $27 per day. Only the bedrooms are air-conditioned. On the good news side, the view from the living room opening is spectacular. Both forts are within walking distance as is The Museo de Las Americas, which I highly recommend. The nearby restaurants are all very good.
