Esta playa de arena negra en la región de Hilo proporciona un lugar donde nadar relajadamente, piscinas naturales entre rocas y donde hacer buen surf. En la playa hay una casa que data de los años 20 y que fue hogar de la familia Richardson, de ahí el nombre del parque. Actualmente los que acudan a este parque pueden visitar la casa, ahora el centro oceánico Richardson, para conocer más sobre la vida marina de la zona.La lava procedente del Mauna Kea ha formado un dique natural en el Richardson Ocean Park, conviertiéndola en una playa resguardada perfecta para los niños pequeños. Piscinas naturales de roca que se llenan con la marea alta y perfectos lugares poco profundos para nadar con la marea baja. Vigila a los niños mientras juegan en el agua con la tranquilidad de saber que no hay corrientes ni olas. Más allá del dique, Richardson Ocean Park es un popular lugar de surf. Las condiciones de esta zona son conocidas por ser impredecibles y solo es apta para surfistas con experiencia. Si no eres un surfista experto prueba el bodyboarding en aguas poco profundas. Y para experimentar la playa al máximo alquilar un kayak. Podrás alquilarlo a precios razonables en la playa. La antigua casa de Elsa y George Richardson se ha convertido en un centro educativo y de investigación.Richardson Ocean Park se encuentra a 9 kilómetros al este de Hilo. La mejor forma de llegar a la playa es en coche y hay un amplio aparcamiento gratuito. Actualmente no hay transporte público que lleve al Richardson Ocean Park no obstante, algunas visitas guiadas te llevarán al parque. El parque abre todos los días y el acceso es gratis.

Our stay at Gingerhill Farm in Hawaii was a truly unique experience and the perfect retreat. If you're looking for something comfortable and memorable outside of the traditional resort stay, this is it. The outdoor shower and open-air kitchen were absolute highlights—they made us feel immersed in the beautiful surroundings while still having everything we needed. The property is filled with lush gardens, blooming ginger, and vibrant tropical plants that create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. We also loved spotting the friendly geckos throughout the property, which added to the authentic island experience. A wonderful bonus was discovering the beautiful artwork by Mayumi Oda displayed throughout the property. Her vibrant, nature-inspired prints complemented the peaceful setting perfectly and added another layer of inspiration to our stay. If you appreciate nature, tranquility, and a one-of-a-kind place to stay, Gingerhill Farm is a wonderful choice!

Facility is a bit outdated. Loved the power/heated toilet! Bathtub was significantly chipped and has seen better days. Room was good sized, bathroom was nice. In-room mini fridge and coffee service was a plus. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The 'adult' pool is in the middle of the buildings, which means it gets VERY limited sun. The 'everyone' pool is shallow--I don't think it got above 3.5 or 4 feet--and the water temp was in the 90s. The sandy zero-depth entry for the kids spread pebbles everywhere, not fund for us old folks who don't walk around outside that often with no shoes on, and especially not on rocks.

I was hoping that the reviews were not true but it is true. There are roaches and ants in the room. I can also see roach sticky pads and ant baits under the couch and on the side of the fridge. Very gross. The rooms are outdated but it was nice that there is AC. The best part was the location. It was very convenient to everything such as shopping and restaurants. But because of convenience, the location is noisy but it was not an issue for me. Parking is very limited onsite but I did not have an issue. There was also street parking if needed.
