"Perfect location for exploring Helvellyn. Staff were attentive and friendly. We took our dog with us and they looked after all of us. Pub had great atmosphere. Would stay here again."

Needs elevator and trailheads are too far (1 1/2 miles to Old Corpse Road trailhead) - needs trailhead right behind hotel. Dinner menu not good — very fancy, very narrow, might be popular in Knightsbridge or Kensington but not in mountains where people out and about and craving hearty meal at end of day- the “bread” was ridiculous."

"Location amazing - quiet, no noise from main road, great view of lake and direct access to the lovely 10 mile path all around the lake. Beds in our twin room were nice and comfy. Lovely staff. Nice breakfast. Only negative is that the hotel really needs a bit of a refurb/modernisation, but for the price it's still great value. Highly recommended"

"What lovely staff, so friendly. This is the best place i have stayed in yet on my Coast to Coast walk. Breakfast was amazing, apart from the usual full english (which loses its novelty after 5 days!) chose eggs benedict which was perfectly cooked and made a lovely change. Room was spacious and bed comfy. All together a great place to stay."

"The rooms were luxuriously furnished and the hotel overall is very cosy and welcoming. Staff couldn;t do enough to help and the attention to detail was fantastic, everything from bags for walking boots to fresh milk on the landing for in room tea and coffee. A bottle of speciality beer in the room was a bonus."

"The hotel is in a beautiful setting. Quiet and peaceful. We stayed in a room with a balcony with lovely views. The room was small and in need of an upgrade in my opinion. Older furniture. The bathroom whilst a good size with nice toiletries was also looking tired in parts. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. We ate Sunday lunch in the restaurant. "This is unique experience. With outstanding views of Windermere and Ambleside. Try and avoid wedding weekends. As the menu is limited but still a lot of great choice and variety. Staff could not be more helpful and attentive. Makes a huge difference to a trip, I hope the management team take note. We stayed in the cottage's which were great for us as we travelled as a 6. And gave us some extra privacy and ability to spend the afternoon on our own terrace together which was great. But...

"Very average. Overall a nice pub area. Checkin was rushed. No parking nearby and confusing as to which car parks allowed overnight parking. Carpets were filthy and didn't look like they had been hoovered in a week. Breakfast was fine. "

"The hotel staff were very friendly. The room was comfortable in a beautiful setting. There is easy access to footpaths in the area and several options for getting around. The restaurant food was outstanding except for one meal, they ran out of game hem and replaced it with chicken, and the chicken was dry. Otherwise it would be nice to have some pillow options, with both foam and feather available. Overall it was excellent and I highly recommend it. Hoping we can go there again in the future."
