The room was grossly overpriced and misrepresented in the photos and descriptions - no screens on any door or window, no umbrella for the deck, no fan, no microwave, etc. Staff said screens have been backordered since last April.

Amazing location, but poor guest service caused a lot of unnecessary stress. The lodge felt severely understaffed, with frequent communication issues. Upon arrival, we were almost charged twice despite having prepaid. The front desk insisted we pay again until we showed our credit card statement and booking confirmation. We also received no directions to our room and had to ask restaurant staff for help. The door lock was confusing, and when we asked for help, the groundskeeper’s tone made us feel foolish. The manager was also unpleasant, frequently barking orders at staff in front of guests. The restaurant was closed for a “special anniversary event,” which was essentially a $70/person buffet with overcooked, dry ribs, salad with no dressing, and burnt broccoli. We had to drive 20 minutes for dinner and found better food, service and live music for far less. It felt more like a money grab than a celebration. Expedia listed breakfast as included, but we were charged $40. Other guests also believed it was included. Our first night was miserable due to a privacy barrier scraping the deck all night in the wind. Thin walls and an early-closing store were additional inconveniences. Thankfully, Christian provided excellent service and genuinely cared about guests. The location and views are spectacular and made the stay worthwhile. The rooms are cozy, the bed is very comfortable, and the heater worked great. You can also rent boats, canoes and kayaks right on the beach.

My husband and I specifically made a 3 night reservation at the Kit Carson Lodge over the 4th of July weekend because we were told by an employee over the phone that the room included a microwave and a fridge, plates and cutlery That was not true. We arrived with multiple perishables and cooked food, o find out, upon arrival, that there were neither plates & cutlery NOR a microwave NOR a fridge. That was a very disappointing start of the weekend. Our food had to be kept at room temperature overnight until the lodge manager accomodated us the following day with an " emergency" cooler with ice to store our perishables. The account manager declined to offer any compensation for the inconvenience, which was even mote disappointing.

Do not stay at Kit Carson Lodge! This was the most Disappointing stay at hotel I have ever had. When I checked in and went to our room- Jeffrey- the room smelled of gas/propane. We tried to turn on the heater but the pilot light never lit. After going to the front desk I was helped by Candace as she came to the room fairly quickly & she seemed to “fix” the problem by slowly turning the thermostat over.Not long after the heater turned off and it didn’t work for the remainder of the night. At 1 am we woke up freezing (it was an expected low of 24 deg that night) and we could do nothing to get it to work and heard the pilot light trying to ignite all night long. As we laid awake we heard scurrying and we are pretty sure we had a mouse or two in our room running around. At 6 am and freezing I went find someone to fix the heater & see about breakfast. I couldn’t find anyone in the lodge and ran into the maintenance guy, as well as noticing that the restaurant doesn’t serve food until NOON! With a child this is not ok!After a few minutes the maintenance guy came and tried to fix the heater and he was unsuccessful.When he left to go find a screwdriver to work on it it randomly turned on. When checking out I voiced my complaint & was told I may get a 10% discount.That doesn’t cover freezing, not sleeping and losing a day because of the fact that we didn’t sleep. It was too expensive we should’ve camped.I would appreciate someone contacting me asap. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone!

Silver Lake is a beautiful location and having cabins to rent on the lake side is pretty special. The cabins are old and rather quirky, but you can over look some inconveniences, like luke warm water, missing chairs for dining, no plugs in the sinks and even a mouse in your room. But when we checked in they charge me for the room even though I had paid for it . I had to find my credit card bill to show I had paid for the room. Once I showed them my credit card statement they refunded the money they charged me. On the second day of our 3 day stay they came to our cabin at 11:00am to check that we were staying another night. I said we were there for another night.Then at 1:30pm they came and said we had to move to another cabin and they gave us an hour to move out. They said that our booking was for 2 nights in 1 cabin and a third night in a different cabin which wasn't stated in our reservation. Moving without any prior notice was very disturbing and put a damper on the rest of our stay. I won't be returning and I won't be recommending this lodge.

Dirty and has pest problems

I booked three nights in a cabin. Upon arrival, I saw how rustic the cabin really was. The floors were dirty. There’s no hot water in the sinks. The heat didn’t work despite the nighttime low being in the 40s Fahrenheit. In the morning, I woke up and took a shower. The whole cabin was filled with toxic propane fumes from the on-demand hot water heater which exhausts straight into the living area. While I was out exploring, the kitchen trash can was raided by rodents who spread the contents around the kitchen and left droppings. While getting ready for bed, I saw a huge cockroach walk up the bedroom wall and disappear into the ceiling. After another cold night, I woke up early and decided that I couldn’t stand any more time here. I checked out at 9:30 am and spoke to the manager. He insisted that there was nothing he could do to offer me any sort of refund, not even for my unused 3rd night. I recommend avoiding this place.

I loved the location and the beauty of Silver Lake. The lake is readily accessible to launch kayak's, paddleboards. We stayed in a cabin and found it clean and comfortable. A few amenities were missing such as a broom and a microwave (which was quickly found and added back into our room). Heads up to potential guests -- there is NO internet. They say they have wifi but it simply does not work. While it was nice to be disconnected, it also made it hard to research hiking trails/maps. The restaurant is 'just ok' and overpriced for the food.
