“A Comfy Cottage Right Out Of Beatrix Potter's World” Pet Friendly

Railway Cottage self catering has a peaceful ambiance and exceptional comfort. Polished wooden floor in the bedroom and black slate in the kitchen living area, antique pine furniture and pure Irish linen are used throughout. Enjoy Carmel's warm welcome with the added privacy of your own cottage. Railway Cottage is completely self-contained with its own kitchen, sitting room, double bedroom with king size bed and en-suite bathroom. The kitchen contains all the comforts of home: cooker & hob, dishwasher and washer & dryer. For longer stays, enjoy cooking for yourself- though Carmel always stocks the basics (coffee/ tea, milk, farm-fresh eggs, etc.) along with some of her home-baked breads from the Lodge! TV & DVD player are also installed in the cottage sitting room for those rainy days. French doors open and you can dine al fresco and enjoy the evening sunset with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. There are loungers, patio table and chairs for a comfortable outdoor dining experience, weather permitting!
If you wish you can also have breakfast at the main house 'Railway Lodge' book in advance.
You can have daily cleaning and bed linen is changed once a week.
Now to adhere to COVID 19 Guidelines we are not offering breakfast - we expect guests to be respectful of the situation and bare with us during these difficult times. We want you to enjoy your break in the West of Ireland.

We had a great stay, weather very mixed and appreciated Railway Cottage being warm and cosy. Oughterard was a great base foe exploring and provided all we needed - Sullivan's cinnamon buns are addictive! Thanks to Joe for info about the area and Carmel for the scones. We were made very welcome by hosts and their lovely dogs.

Excellent on all levels, Beautiful property in a peaceful location within walking distance of Oughterard. The hosts are fantastic and really go above and beyond. We were treated to homemade scones for one! And the animal friends are a delight. We are deeply thankful for our stay here!

Clean, comfortable, cosy cottage, everything we could need for an active but ageing couple. Joe friendly, considerate and always available with useful advice on the area. Animals a bonus: 2 friendly dogs, a couple of cute kittens and Hilly, the Connemara pony who always came for a stroke. We had a wonderful week. Thank you Joe & Carmel. We had some mixed weather but generally it improved through the week. Loved the Connemara area, a comfortable drive from the cottage. A day on the Aran islands, riding on hired e-bikes- fantastic experience. Also explored the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. Galway takes some driving around but it was worth it. We can recommend the cottage and the area.

The quiet and peacefulness of this property was really lovely. One morning when I woke up, there was a quiet misty fog and it was so lovely. The cottage is cute, the main house is charming, but the best part of our stay here was the happy animals. Hilly the Horse, Jake & Ted the dogs and two unnamed kittens were living their best life here. I enjoyed seeing their happiness with their life in this lovely part of Ireland. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed, Carmel left us some fresh fruit, flowers and delicious blueberry scones. There is a lot to do in this part of Ireland, (hiking, biking, boating, site-seeing, fishing) I hope one day we will be able to visit again. I highly recommend this cottage, it feels very rural but is an easy walk into town for shops & restaurants. The bed was very comfortable and the owners are super nice, and Joe gave us some restaurant recommendations that we enjoyed. I was so sad to leave. It is a little piece of paradise.

Our host ,Joe, welcomed us and provided us with helpful information. We were given delicious scones, jam, and milk, coffee, tea. We enjoyed interacting with their horse, kittens, and well mannered dogs.

Ein herrliches kleines Haus mit allem was Urlaub ausmacht, sehr nette Vermieter, freundliche Hunde die einen morgens zum Brombeerpflücken begleiten und zur Begrüßung frisch gebackene Scones mit selbst gemachter Marmelade. Vielen Dank für die kurze Auszeit.

Alles war genau wie beschrieben! Sehr sauber, ganz hell, vor allem das obere Stochwerk. Ein sehr freundlicher Empfang mit frischen Blumen, frischem Obst und Scones mit Marmelade. Sehr zu empfehlen für mehrere Tage, da es viel in Connemara zu erkunden gibt. Der Vermieter ist extra freundlich und hat so viele gute Tipps. Vielen Dank!

We stayed two nights at Carmel and Joe's lodge, a wonderful and quiet cottage hidden in the countryside of the Connemara region. Joe is really a super host and his suggestions are always the top. Highly recommended!

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at the cottage. A peaceful location within walking distance of the village. Some lovely touches from Joe and Carmel including fresh baked scones, bowl of fruit, fresh flowers and a food starter pack. A great base for exploring Galway, Connemara and Mayo. We hope to return soon and have no hesitation in recommending this property to others.

Loved our stay in Oughterard at this little cottage. Host greeted us on arrival and showed us around as did the 2 very friendly doggies. Host gave us very good tips for our day the following day and we had the best time we went to dogs bay and walked along the beach, Connemara national park and climbed Diamond Hill then a quick look at Kylemore Abbey, so great local tips. The cottage was warm and inviting ( the heating was programmed which was lovely as some places turn it off in summer) very quiet and the huge bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve slept in. There was some lovely scones awaiting us when we arrived it was a great 2 night stay the whole area is so beautiful. Would recommend staying here.

My sister and I stayed at this cottage for three nights and we absolutely loved it!! It was comfortable and cozy, all the amenities we needed, and the MOST delicious scones hand made by Carmel. We also got to visit with the animals on the property, Ted and Jake (the dogs… so sweet and well behaved!) and every time we went outside, Hilly the Horse came to greet us. We were just a driveway and a waterfall away from town, tucked away in this perfect little countryside setting. Joe also gave us recommendations on an itinerary for a day trip out to Connemara National Park and we enjoyed it so much …. Thank you!!

We loved or stay in this idealistic cottage. It was exactly what my husband and I needed and wanted after a busy holiday sightseeing in Europe. Joe and Carmel were so welcoming and gracious hosts. Their dogs Jake and Ted kept us company when we were missing our dogs back home. The town was a close walk. We were able to find many places to go hiking and explore. Though it was the best just having a place to relax, have a few romantic meals together and get our laundry done before heading home to the States.

Our stay at this cute cottage was wonderful. Great location, close a cute little town, which had pubs,restaurants, and shops. My wife especially appreciated feeding Hillie (Pony) apple's. Owner Joe was very helpful and friendly.

We LOVED our stay in this little cottage. It was fun to wind down a few lanes to arrive, following the excellent directions. We brought a few light groceries and they supplemented the lovely scones, jam and coffee/tea that awaited us for breakfast. Having access to a washing machine was so helpful at this point in our trip. Friendly host - along with their very personable dogs and pony! A great base for exploring and nice to be outside the hubbub of Galway. Definitely recommend.
