"Just like camping. Carpet had not been vacuumed. There was one light and one outlet that could only be used for charging devices. No hair dryer or curling iron use. Two towels, no hand towels or wash cloths. Bathroom sink was only plumbed for cold water. Shower liner was peeling and there was no bathroom light. Common area was not clean. "

"Think of it as luxury camping and you'll be happy. If your idea of comfort is umbrella drinks by the pool, you will not. Personally, I loved it. But it's not for everyone. This is a rustic cabin in the jungle. 4.5 miles off the main road, 2.2 miles of it is dirt (well maintained, regular cars not a problem). 15 minute drive to nearest civilization (the part of the description being in the middle of a historic town is inaccurate - it's 7 miles outside a historic town). "The coqui are LOUD! The bed was fairly hard. The shower was tiny with only luke warm water. Alex was a great host, communicated well and even walked to the end of the road and helped us find his place in the dark. If you’re only planning to sleep here it’s ok (be mindful of the first 2 sentences). Otherwise “lounging comfortably” is not an option - bed and 2 dining chairs. Location was good. Not too far away from Volcanoes NP, and near enough to Hilo. "

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the tree house. The property was delightful, and had what we needed. It felt exactly like a home cabin up north, but also completely Hawai’i.The grounds are beautiful, the ambience is relaxing, and the frogs produce a wonderful song all night. Combined with the sound of the ocean, the setting is quite serene. While no property is perfect, I would like to see the lighting improved, such as night lights, but one can’t have everything. Mahalo nui loa!"

"As we were driving a series of long winding roads to this property we said to ourselves, “this place is going to have to be really nice to be worth the drive.” And it was. The nature sounds were amazing. Eating every meal on the lanai was lovely. The kids fought over who got to sleep on the lanai. It’s close to a beautiful black sands clothing-optional beach, and otherwise there’s not much to do out there. It’s not the best jumping off point for lots of island touring, but it’s the perfect spot...

"This place is such a beautiful oasis. So quiet and peaceful. The grounds are beautiful to walk around (bee hives, flowers, mini garden, some animals) and there is a gorgeous view of the water. It's easy to get to town and Jacklynn is a wonderful host. We also had amazing massages with a wonderful therapist named Christine at the massage shala. Highly recommend! "
