I stayed at Callista Hotel for the weekend while attending the Pickle Festival nearby. The hotel itself is not your typical setup, it looks more like an old Victorian-style home than a modern hotel. When I arrived, the area felt pretty deserted. There’s no staff to greet you at the door; instead, you press a button and the door opens automatically, which felt a bit eerie. I even had to call the front desk because I wasn’t sure anyone was there. I was actually scared to go inside.
Check-in was quick, and the one front desk worker I saw all weekend was helpful. Once inside, the hallways and room were surprisingly nice, modern furniture, a huge bed, and a great shower with strong water pressure. I personally liked the firm mattress, but it might be too hard for others.
The downside: the bathroom has some questionable stains on the wall and the floor had a lot of hair from the previous guest, which was gross and made the room feel unclean. Also, the area around the hotel is very quiet, no stores or restaurants in walking distance, and an abandoned building across the street didn’t help the vibe.
Overall, it served its purpose for a short stay, but the eerie atmosphere and cleanliness issues bring my rating down to a 3 out of 5. Great if you’re attending a nearby event, but probably not ideal for a longer or more relaxing stay.
