Tucked away in the serene Walden cottage enclave, Tallgrass Cottage is a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature yet conveniently close to the heart of New Buffalo. Just a short walk to downtown and less than a mile from the beach, this inviting getaway is only 70 miles from Chicago.

Step inside and feel the stress melt away as natural Michigan light pours in through skylights and expansive windows. Thoughtfully designed with vaulted ceilings, an open-concept living space, and modern comforts like granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, Tallgrass Cottage is the perfect home base for your Harbor Country adventures.

Explore the area's many attractions—wine tastings at local vineyards, seasonal festivals, world-class antiquing, kayaking, fishing, and championship golf. After a day of exploration, unwind on the open deck, relax with a book on the screened-in porch, or enjoy a meal at one of New Buffalo’s fantastic restaurants. With three bedrooms, three full baths, and a spacious activity loft, Tallgrass comfortably accommodates up to six guests.

This property is well-maintained and equipped for the comfort and convenience of our guests. Our vacation rentals include well-equipped kitchens, living, and dining areas. Linens and towels are provided. Homes have washers and dryers, dishwashers, central heat, and air conditioning, cable/satellite television, DVD players, high-speed Internet service, and outdoor gas or charcoal grills.

We ask that renters bring condiments, dishwasher soap, laundry soap, extra toilet paper, and convenience items like plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and zip-lock bags. We do not supply firewood for homes that have wood-fueled amenities like a fire pit or a wood-burning fireplace. We do not resupply anything during the stay. We provide two rolls of toilet paper for each bathroom, 2 rolls of paper towels, 4 garbage bags, and hand soap in each bathroom -- so plan according to your needs.

Minimum Age Limit for Renters: The guest signing the rental agreement/contract must be 30 years of age or older (ID at check-in required) and must be responsible for the group during the entire time of the stay.

Maximum occupancy restrictions: The number of guests at any WAYA-managed property can not exceed the maximum occupancy number (or sleeps number). This includes invited guests, friends, or additional family members. Events, parties, or family gatherings are not permitted without express written permission prior to booking.

Late Summer

We really enjoyed our 4 nights at this cottage! Super close to town and a cute neighborhood with other nice homes immediately surrounding. Recommend fewer check-out "pre-clean" requirements (stripping beds, loading the wash, etc.). Also, there are a LOT of toys and board games here so with 3 kids 8 and under, there was a lot of pickup and organizing of all of these new-to-them toys throughout the days and evenings. Overall, great place and very clean!

Great cottage in New Buffalo, MI!

Great vacation cottage for my family of 5. Very clean and spacious. Great location - close to New Buffalo restaurants, shopping and the beach. The cottage has all the amenities. My kids enjoyed the upstairs play room and all the board games. My favorite was the enclosed porch. My only recommendation would be for new beds. The queen bed in the master bedroom was not comfortable.

Annual Girls Trip

The home was fantastic. Well cared for and definitely a place I’d stay at again! It did not disappoint! Easy access to downtown where’s there was plenty to see and do and wonderful places to eat at. Perfect vacation for my my daughters and I.

Great family getaway

This house was exactly what we'd hope it would be! Extremely clean and well maintained. It was perfect for a family weekend away. The screened in porch is so awesome and we spent lots of time out there. Comfy beds, nice bathrooms - would love to stay here again!

Wonderful Time - Beachdays!

There was 6 of us. My husband and myself, my two adults sons in their 20's and their girlfriends. We had such a wonderful time. We just love New Buffalo, the beach the town. We are definitely planning on booking for a full week next summer. Beautiful house. ** One thing I did want to mention the bath/shower in the master bedroom was not draining well. Lovely!!

The place was amazing. Very cute and smelled so clean, and was. The cottage was such a short drive from downtown. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxing place to come back to afyer a hard day of playing.

Tall grass cottage

We stayed at tallgrass cottage last year. And well the accommodation suit us very well, very clean well-appointed, there are still no dressers to put clothes in. I had mentioned it in my review last year so basically you're living at a suitcase for a week. That's really my only issue because it is very well located to beaches shops and other attractions.

Darling Home

Clean, comfortable and close to New Buffalo beach and town. Our 3 teenage girls enjoyed the loft with 3 beds, sofa, TV, and their own bathroom. A darling place!

Great Beachy getaway

Clean, comfortable, plenty of space inside/out. Nice deck & screened in porch. Excellent assortment of spices for cooking & chairs/umbrella for beach. Beds were not comfortable so that would prevent us from re-booking. Otherwise, geat experience.

Great Family Vacation

Would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking for a nice house, slightly secluded/quiet neighborhood but still just a short 4 minute drive to the beach and downtown (It is walkable to DT, however half a mile of the walk doesn’t have sidewalk so might be dangerous at night) The property worked great for my family with 2 kids under 3. The property overall was clean however it is probably due for a deeper clean, fixtures and fans had a lot of dust and found some old garbage (wrappers, retainer case) nothing terrible just felt it could get a bit of a overall clean beyond visible areas. However I would not let this be a negative, overall the pictures don’t do this place justice, outside deck was fantastic to hang in the late afternoon, with a fire pit for the evenings, and the screened in porch was a great place for cards and board games at night. I’d for sure stay here again.

Fall in New Buffalo

Our daughter and her son and husband live in chicago and frequent New Buffalo a lot and love it. It was my first visit there and it did not disappoint. The home is beautiful and so modern and clean. Just a great vibe and the porch and outdoor living space made it perfect. We loved our visit and plan on coming back to this property with friends!!!

Chicago get away

This property exceeded our expectations! The photos were lovely but the home was more spacious than it appeared in photos. The outdoor spaces ,including the screened in porch, were terrific for our group of 6. We took advantage of it all, grilling on the porch and making s'mores around the fire pit. The home was in a lovely area. We would return!

Family Get-Away

Overall we found the home lovely and made for a relaxing stay. The house was close enough but far enough from downtown which allowed us to be in a quiet neighborhood but easily able to get to the "action" rather quickly. Two caveats: The bathtub in the master bathroom drained very slowly. The left hand side door of the refrigerator did not always close correctly. At times needed to reclose for it to shut.

Great location, relaxing environment

The rental process was simple and easy. The location and property were very nice. We especially enjoyed the fireplace. There was no cable or internet as indicated by the listing. We thoroughly enjoyed our time but it would have been nice to have internet access. (We did connect to the wifi but internet did not work) Overall, I would definitely recommend this location.
