Hobbit House - Studio Mountain Cabin

In this unique studio cabin you will be staying in an updated 1908 quarters of the Nederland black smith. Walking distance to town, you are at the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park offering pristine hiking trails, lakes, white water rafting, kayaking, fishing, climbing, backcountry skiing, and more! Eldora Ski Resort is a 10 min drive away. The Hobbit shares a quaint outdoor courtyard, gas fire pit & grill with the Gypsy Getaway just adjacent. Have 4 guests? Rent both!

The space
The Hobbit House is Located less than 2 blocks from the heart of Nederland offering restaurants, bars, communal office space/internet, library, bank, beautiful Barker Reservoir and loads of mountain character. Nederland is a funky town just 18 miles from Boulder, 45 minutes from Denver. Sitting at 8600ft above sea level, it is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park offering pristine hiking trails, lakes, white water rafting, kayaking, fishing, climbing, backcountry skiing, and more. Eldora Ski Resort is a quick 10 min. drive or bus ride away! The Hobbit House is a private cabin on our home property and shares a common outdoor courtyard, outdoor gas fire pit, and grill with the Hobbit House rental just adjacent. Includes all utilities and wifi. No pets.

Have 4 guests? Rent both cabins! Renting both cabins makes for a special and unique private retreat.

We have fragile mountain plumbing. Please nothing down the toilet other than the RV toilet paper provided. Trap all food going down kitchen sink and dispose of in trashcan. No harsh chemicals like bleach, toilet bowl cleaner or Drain-o down the plumbing system.

I'm struggling writing this review because this really is a nice place.Vrbo limits the characters one can use, so it is impossible to explain why I did not give this place 5-state, so unfortunately there isn't room to tell you about all of the good (and even great) things about this cabin (see others' reviews for that)Simply put, the reason I didn't give it 5-stars was that while listed as having a fireplace, and technically there is one, it is boarded up and a really cheesy fire hologram device mounted in the front of it.The plan was to "unplug" for a couple of days. A complete "Digital Detox". No computer, no television, no cell phone... nothing to distract me. I planned to sit and stare at a fire as I let my mind focus on the here and now, and let the world move along without me. There is just something about moving water and fire that can mesmerize a person, and given the time of year, I knew that I would not be hiking up a mountain to gaze at a flowing stream... so fire it is.So I packed the firewood in the car and drove to Nederland. Now imagine my dismay upon discovering the fact that not only was the fireplace boarded over, but a digital fake fire screen mounted in its place. "NO I cried! WHY CAN'T A PERSON ESCAPE THIS DIGITAL WORLD??!!"I wish that the owner did not claim that there was a fireplace, or at least made it clear in the description that it was a "fake" fireplace.And 'No' given the temps, sitting outside at the fire pit was not a viable option

Me and my girlfriend loved our stay at The Hobbit house, it was super cute and in a perfect spot for all our mountain adventures. I'm 6'4 and the pull out bed was a little short just an FYI for me, but the place itself was amazing with high ceilings. We had an issue with the pipes in the bathroom shower, but Amy was fast to respond and very helpful.

Absolutely Magical Stay at the Hobbit House!My husband and I stayed at the Hobbit House from October 24–27 while wedding venue hunting for our daughter, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The moment we arrived, we felt cozy, comfortable, and completely at home. Every detail was thoughtful, and the space had everything we needed for a relaxing, memorable stay.We loved walking into town, meeting new friends, and soaking up the wonderful views, live music, and great food. Nice little property. Couple nits, a bunch of the items in the kitchen cupboard were out of date, could not find the trash can to place all items ins as we were cleaning things out (could have been a me problem finding it), soap dispenser in bathroom was empty, couch bed was rather worn, the cutting board also had some surface mold on it. All in all was a nice place, but there were some little things that would be worth addressing as someone who has owned and operated a STR before.

Directions for check-in, checkout and uniqueness of an older dwelling were great. Lots of food options to eat out, but the kitchen is well equipped to cook also. Overall, a lovely place for an individual or couple to retreat.

A perfect reset!

Our weekend getaway was a perfect reset. Nederland is such a chill town and we love coming up here for Backcountry Pizza. Our first stay in town and I highly recommend the Hobbit House! The cabin was cozy and cute and had everything we needed except a king size bed. I was impressed with the full kitchen and full bath. I also greatly appreciated the dark roast coffee pods! I hope to visit again!

Good Experience

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the hobbit house. It was a cute little cabin that suited our needs for our long weekend. Great location, super close to town but still felt private. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5, is that the listing made it seem like there was a queen bed in addition to a pull out couch. The only bed is the pull out couch, which worked fine for us, but the listing definitely made it seem like there was an additional queen bed.

I came back to The Ned after living there back in the early 70’s. It was nice to stay in a neighborhood where it was nice and quiet. Highly recommend the Hobbit place!
