A good hotel in a great location. There were some issues with the elevator, which wasn't working during our stay, but it wasn't a big deal for us. The check-in process was unnecessarily convoluted; it could certainly have been much more expeditious. All in all, it was a very good stay.

We booked the "Romantic Suite" through Expedia, only to discover that the room was completely windowless. Although the listing described it as being below ground level, it did not disclose that there were no windows whatsoever. In fact, the description mentioned "blackout drapes", which rather suggests that windows exist! What makes this particularly disappointing is that Expedia's listings in other countries apparently disclosed that the room was windowless, whereas the UK listing did not. Despite raising this issue, the UK listing still hasn't been corrected as of November 2026, meaning future guests could book without knowing what they're getting. I would strongly advise anyone considering this suite to be aware that it has absolutely no windows. This is a significant detail that should be made clear before booking, especially for a room marketed as a romantic suite.

We enjoyed our stay at Art House Basel for the most part. The staff went above and beyond with restaurant recommendations and were incredibly helpful with getting our delayed luggage delivered 15 minutes before our River cruise departed (two full days after we arrived in Basel!). The location was perfect for sightseeing and art museums. My criticisms: The room lighting, especially near the vanity, was terrible. It created dark shadows and made it difficult to put makeup on. The pocket door between the vanity and the toilet/shower room was very noisy/squeaky There were no hooks in the shower/toilet room to hang clothes on while showering. We ended up hanging our own command adhesive hooks.
