Quiet cottage nestled in the woods

Feel far away while not going far. This cozy quiet cottage is located on the edge of a 41 acre Certified tree farm. This cabin is one of 2 cabins available for rent. Beautiful serene wooded view with lots of Maples, massive Oaks, and beautiful Buckeye trees. Feel free to collect Buckeye nuts to take home with you. Lots of wildflowers and native plants. Spacious 3-season sunroom to enjoy the view. Pet friendly with a large fenced-in dog area. Tons of wildlife include whitetail deer, wild turkey, birds, fox, and more. Come get away from the hustle and bustle and relax in our serene woods. You can also enjoy an outdoor fire pit, indoor/outdoor seating, a huge yard, outdoor games, board games, and more. Come reconnect with nature. Grab a good book, relax, write or just watch the local wildlife.

This country cabin has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a full kitchen, a large sunroom, and can sleep 6 people (1 Queen bed, a twin trundle bed, a futon couch, a hideaway bed, and a couch). The home is 1100 square feet. It has a massive fireplace with built-in bookshelves. The bedroom walls do not go to the ceiling and noise may carry. A fan has been placed in the bedrooms to help with white noise. At this time there are no doors on the bedroom doors- coming soon. Curtains have been placed to help with privacy.

Enjoy the fire pit with s’mores and hot dogs. Take in nature while reading a book in the hammock. Listen to the water feature while relaxing outdoors. A dog fenced-in area is located in the front of the home. Wood is provided for the firepit. Please do not use the fireplace in the home.

Indoor and outdoor games have been provided for your family to enjoy.

Limited parking available. Any trailers, campers, RV's, wagons, extra large trucks, etc. must be approved ahead of time.

Whetstone Woods is located about 35-45 minutes north of Columbus. It is 3o minutes to Tanger Mall, 25 minutes from Snow Trails Ski resort, and 15 minutes to Mid Ohio Raceway. There are tons of local parks including Cedar Fork Park, Headwaters Outdoor Education Center (5904-5944 Home Rd ONLY 3 Miles FROM OUR FARM!), and our favorite- Mount Gilead State Park (4119 State Route 95- LOCATED 4 MILES from our farm).

Other things to do include Bunker's Mill Winery in Cardington, Mid-Ohio Balloon Adventures, Morrow Lanes Bowling Center, Splatter Park Paint Ball, Planet 14 (arcade), Tiger Den roller skating, and Sparks Fly LLC (private flights), antiquing in Mount Gilead, food, Capital Movie theatre, day spa, Ohio Bird sanctuary, Cote Winery, and more!

Mount Gilead Massage Therapy will come out to the Cabin to do a private treatment. Please contact them at least 1 week in advance at (419) 751-7100.

NO Smoking in the home. Please no vaping, illegal drugs, tobacco products, etc. If the home smells like smoke there will be a $500 fee.

Pets are welcome up to 25 pounds. No aggressive pets. Pets can not be left in the home alone for any reason unless crated. If your pet has an accident in the home there is a $150 cleaning fee. If you have a pet stay that isn’t stated during booking is a $200 fee.

Extra Amenities: Going the extra mile! We want your stay to be as special as you are! Here are some extra ideas you can add to your stay.

Massage Therapy- Mount Gilead Massage Therapy will come out to the cottage to do a 60-90 minute deep tissue or sweetish massage. Relax in the privacy of the cottage while getting a destressing massage. They recommend booking 1-2 weeks in advance. Contact Mount Gilead Massage Therapy for more info.

Birthday Kid- Is it your kids extra special birthday? We can get balloons, streamers, banners, and a cupcake waiting for them to arrive. Imagine their surprise to open the door to excitement waiting for them on their special day! ($40).

Moody Teen basket- Got a Moody teen coming along? Trying to cheer them up? We can make up a gift basket to lift their spirits. Filled with candy, popcorn, snacks, drinks and more. ($25).

Late check out- Want to stay a little later? Need an extra nap before you go? Normal check out time is 11 am. Late check out is 1 pm ($50).

Quiet and Private

This cabin is nicely situated and more than met our needs. We were in the area to work for a few days and wanted something quieter and more private than a motel, where we could have our pet with us and cook our own meals. Although it was cold and snowy during our stay, we were warm and cozy. The owner was friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again.

Awesome weekend

My sister and I came from Cleveland and Columbus to stay at the cottage for two nights on a weekend in late October. The property was very clean and also well stocked with just about anything we could need. I appreciated the thorough communication from the owner. She offered lots of detailed information on activities and restaurants in the area as well as clear instructions regarding check-in and check-out. The location is great - surrounded by trees, it feels isolated enough to be relaxing but it is actually very close to convenient shopping, eateries and parks. I am certain this place would be beautiful any time of year, but our choice of timing was perfect with the fall colors all around. We had a lovely visit - we sat outside by the fire eating chili, drinking hot cocoa and roasting marshmallows. There were lots of birds visiting the feeders right outside the windows. We saw deer from the living room on more than one occasion. This was my first experience renting on Vrbo and I'd definitely recommend it!

Host was wonderful

Had a great time with my family in what we called “the cabin in the woods”. When we were not at our tournament, we were able to relax and have fun family time there. They have many indoor and outdoor games and we enjoyed marshmallows at the fire pit. The host was very attentive and a pleasure to deal with.

Great place to stay.

Very clean and well taken care of, excellent location, quiet and peaceful. Great place to stay. Janel was very personable and helpful. This cabin has great history and is in a beautiful location. We enjoyed the area-Galion, Mt Gilead, and Marion as well as all the little towns in between. Our dogs were very happy with the fenced in area-very dog friendly. Thank you Janel! Hope to visit the cabin again.

Birthday Trip to the woods

This property was perfect for our trip. We spent 3 nights relaxing, birding, and visiting sites in and near Mt Gilead. Owner was very responsive. We would definitely stay here again.

Best Getaway Cabin

The pictures of this property do not do it justice. It was very peaceful. The host allowed us to bring our dog, and had snacks for us left out for when we arrived. There was outdoor games (I didn't know Yardtze was a thing, and not I want one!), indoor games, books and magazines. It was secluded enough to be peaceful, but still close to things in case you needed it (like Dollar General and Kroger). Also close to Mt. Gilead State Park. I would stay here again for SURE and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a cabin in this area.

Cabin in the woods

Very clean cabin. Was just what we needed and the owners were very responsive. Came down for a wedding and had plenty of room for all of us to get ready. Was a little chilly at night but we were all able to stat warn around the fire pit. Owners offered free firewood which was a pleasant surprise so we didn't have to pack it with us in an already crowded car. Would be staying here anytime we come in the area to see family.

This is a very quiet place... nice and relaxing. Many places to eat and opportunities to just relax. Great place to bring the small dogs with a fenced in area. They had all of the creature comforts of home!

Beautiful Setting

Nice setting with all the trees. We were not able to get it this year, but we prefer a cabin by the water. There was a smell in the cabin that stayed with us even when we got home from our trip. We like to open the windows and let the fresh air in, however not all the windows had screens on them. The 3 season porch was nice, but there again we would have preferred to open some windows. However, when we looked at the porch, from the pictures, we figured it did not have any screens on the windows. So we kind of knew this ahead of time when we booked. Enjoyed the fire pit and the supply of firewood.

Sisters' Getaway

Two of my sisters and I stayed at this amazing cabin for 3 nights. The cabin is so very clean, with an "open" floor plan and raised ceilings, which makes it seem airy and large...windows everywhere to let in lots of light...an amazing kitchen to cook in...beautiful flowers on the property...fenced-in yard for dogs (although our dog stayed home for this trip.) We went to the state park on our last day to walk around the lake by the dam -- the trails were lovely, and if you stayed on the paved path, not too hard. Other than that, we just stayed at the cabin, making new memories, recalling old ones--talking and laughing into the wee hours of the morning...It was a trip that we will remember always...

Quiet Retreat

The host was amazing and checked in on us during our stay. He was accommodating when I asked if my in laws could stay with us, made sure we had enough blankets! There were tons of inside and outside games for our enjoyment. Sitting outside by the fire pit was quiet, even though we didn’t build a fire. The only reason the cleanliness didn’t get 5 stars was due to spiderwebs, but it is that time of year.

A little piece of heaven ❤️

The owners are incredibly welcoming and the communication was consistent. The cottage is gorgeous with literally EVERYTHING you need, even personal products. I can't express how amazing it is, you'll just need to see it in person. we enjoyed the wildlife and all the activities from board games to outdoor games and making s'mores 😁 which were provided by Janel and Steven. Would love to stay again without the kids, maybe an anniversary trip

Amazing Relaxing Cabin in the Woods...

I don't think I can find the right words to describe this place and do it justice. If you are looking for a peaceful, beautiful place to just chill out, or to unwind from stress in your life, I would highly recommend this cabin. It is beautifully decorated - and there are so many "homey" touches. When you first walk in, you enter through a sunroom with lights all around the ceiling. The two outside walls are windows, and you are surrounded by trees. This was my favorite place to read and to just unwind. And I can't say enough about the peace I felt, especially in the evenings with those little lights on. The "living area" is very large and spacious, the kitchen is modern and fully equipped, and the bedrooms are decorated beautifully. Outside there is a fountain, with a family of frogs living in the rocks. You can sit in the front, fenced-in yard (in case you have a dog) under the huge tree and hear the water from the fountain. There is also a fire circle - you can build a fire, sit under the trees, make s'mores and make so many amazing memories to take back home with you. The hostess is totally AWESOME!! She wanted to make sure that we had everything we wanted and/or needed. There are indoor and outdoor games - lots of stuff to do. Even if you bring kids along, there are so many things you can do, and everyone can have a vacation to remember. We will definitely be going back...

Cute little cabin-like house.

We didn't spend much time in the cabin, just slept. The place was cute, even though there wasn't much privacy with the bedrooms. Sheer curtains for doors and no ceiling in bedrooms. Had to tell others if getting dressed and no personal time with husband. A few of us had also never showered with sulfur water, that one was new for me... But overall was a really good experience, outside was beautiful and every morning we had a doe and her two babies in the yard playing and foraging.

Dishwasher didnt work, the 1 shower was so tiny you can barely fit in it & nozzle shot water on wall and outside of shower rather than on you so you couldnt get clean. Old furniture. I sat on kitchen chair 1 time & it broke then after we left lady threatened to call cops to embezzle more $ out of us. coul
