Deadly Hydrogen Gas From Golf Carts

Our stay was eventful, as we arrived to the carbon monoxide detectors blaring through the house. I called a VH rep only for them to say “crack the garage door, go out to dinner, come back and 9-10 chance it will turn off. And you’ll be fine” With 7 children with us, this was NOT an option, as safety is paramount. We were given the option to call the non emergency line. Firetrucks came and assessed the beautiful home while as our whole family waited outside horrified. The firemen informed us that carbon monoxide was not detected HOWEVER deadly amounts of hydrogen were found due to people leaving the golf carts plugged in the garage with no ventilation. The firemen were appalled noting that we avoided a deadly situation, praising us for not brushing off the directions of VH’s representative. We were told this happens often at this home. The property itself was gorgeous, we love coming to the Baytowne area (this was our 3rd time). We tried to overlook our first day and having to call the fire dept for a recurring , deadly issue that could have been mitigated, but we couldn’t get over how terribly we were in danger from the first night. We appreciate the local FD and wish that there was more concern for safety as with had several interactions with Vacation Haven staff who all brushed off the severity of our experience.

Baytown Loop

Very spacious home. Perfect for family. Clean. A few things were broken like headlights on golf cart, dinning room chair, and towel rack in one of the bathrooms. If you book and stay longer than 3 days bring garbage bags, dishwasher detergent, and dishsoap, they only provide enough for 2 days. Watch the parking, they are serious about not parking on the grass, we were fined $100 for a front tire on the grass before we realized and could fix,

Great place

The property is wonderful. Our only complaint was the owner did it provide the basics like paper towels trash bags dishwasher soap etc for the time we were there. You would think those small necessities would be provided in an upscale property such as this.

Family Vacation Fun!

We have stayed in Villa Lago several times but this was a new home for us and we loved everything about it, perfect for our party of 10. The kids room was the best we have had, even with their own bathroom. All the beds were comfortable, kitchen well stocked, plenty of towels, great laundry room. We were all able to explore the resort on the golf carts. We will definitely try and secure this one again next year!

Perfect property for a group of friends!

The property was exactly as advertised and we had a great time! The beds & furniture were comfortable and met our needs for the 5 couples staying there for the weekend. My only complaints are the hot water heater really needs to be upgraded so that there is enough hot water for the amount of people that stay there. A tankless water heater would be much better as several of us had to take cold showers. Secondly, the yellow golf cart desperately needs new breaks. I tried several ways to report it to the rental company through the app and responded to a direct text with no response. Therefore, we only had use of one of the golf carts for 10 people. We love this area because of the golf cart friendly location to local shops and restaurants so this was a disappointment. Finally, the ice maker did not work at all. Overall, this is a beautiful property and with the few improvements listed above, we would definitely stay there again!

Almost Perfect

The property was awesome. We had a large group and was disappointed that the advertisement said two golf carts but only had one.. waiting on reimbursement. Enjoyed the area and the place was majestic to the eye.

Overall great experience

The house was great and location was awesome. We were told we would have 2 golf carts and only had 1 the entire trip. This became a huge issue for us for we were there for work and pleasure. My family had to Uber to places so made things difficult. Next time would like to know that prior to arrival so we could have taken another car. Overall good experience just felt we paid for location with 2 carts and only had 1.

Sandestin House Rental

The house was great. Very spacious and well maintained. It was very well furnished and provided all of the supplies we needed. The golf carts were a great benefit. However we did have one scary incident. We were awakened at 3:15 am by the alarm system warning us that there was carbon monoxide in the house. I dialed 911 and they sent the fire department. They said there were high levels of hydrogen gas. The gas came from the golf carts charging in the garage. Although the house rules say keep the carts charging whenever they’re not being used the fire department says don’t charge them overnight unless you leave the garage up. The management company did say they would update the procedure regarding charging the golf carts. Outside of that incident we loved the house. We would definitely rent it again.

Perfect for our family.

3 negatives but everything else was perfection. 1. The back grass was a foot high. 2. The dryer wasn’t drying. (Maintenance can and said the dryer vent was backed up so they removed it from the wall which fixed the problem while we were there. Should come back to clean the dryer vent to outside) 3. Online it says to plug the golf carts in when not using. (We did) the were also both plugged in when we arrived. The problem was there is a small sign on the wall that says do not plug both golf carts in at the same time. It will set off the Corbin monoxide detector...... (which we did!!!) we called maintenance before realizing the problem and opening the garage to air out. When calling maintenance the receptionist didn’t know anything about the golf cart issue. (They are electric but the batteries when charging give off some kind of Oder which the detectors recognize.) All of the above where not property issues. The house was amazing. Decorated perfectly. It was super clean which I can’t thank enough because we had a 4 week old with us. The house, rooms and set up was plenty big enough for our party of 14. Everything was accessible via golf cart. Which was very convenient. I would definitely recommend. One other downside which has nothing to do with the property. The beach was the worst party IMO. The hotels/towers/condos on the beach put out tents and chairs which take up most of the beach and views. Very little room for you to set up your own unless you walk a mile down. Worst part of the trip.

Amazing Amazing Amazing

I can’t say how great this place was for our little vacation for a friend’s wedding. It was absolutely amazing, and we loved every minute. The house is gorgeous and perfect for any family vacation or spouse getaway! We will be coming back!

Wonderful Home!!

This is a great property in Villa Lago! We stay in Villa Lago whenever we go to Sandestin and this was our first time renting this property. A beautiful home with a great open floor plan. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful house

The house was beautiful but immediately when we checked in and my infant started crawling on the floor her feet and knees were black. We also had to kill 5 plus huge roaches in the process. We had counted on having two Golf carts, one of which was the large one. Unfortunately the large gold cart went out and it left us at a disadvantage. I will give them credit for trying to make it right and eventually giving us another 4 passenger loaner. Sandestin is our favorite area and the location of this neighborhood to Baytowne can’t be beat.

Best in Villa Largo!

We have stayed in multiple locations for years now in the Sandestin Resort, but this was one of the nicest by far & having access to 2 golf carts was the topper!

great rental

I stayed here for a little over a week with my family (husband, 2.5 year old, 4 year old and my mother). It was exactly as pictured/described, very clean and perfect for our vacation. Having been to the Sandestin resort many times I knew exactly where this was located in relationship to the village activities and the beach. The golf carts were great for accessing the resort as well as running to the grocery store or starbucks! Only mild complaint is that the pool is not heated. *most of the pools aren't so I can't really complain but since I asked before booking and got no answer, I'll leave that tidbit here for inquiring minds!

Great place! Great location!

My family and I had a great vacation in this beautiful home. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need to cook a meal. The furniture and beds are so comfortable. Loved the large TVs in every room. You can walk to the pool or Baytowne. Getting to the beach was an easy ride using the golf cart. We will definitely stay here again.
