Let the oceanfront, gated retreat of Hilo Shangrila envelop you, with its private saltwater pool, hot tub, and covered lanai, all just a stone's throw from the peaceful Pacific. New air conditioning has been added in all bedrooms for total guest comfort. We are constantly upgrading our home with guest comfort in mind! Situated in the quiet, rural Hawaiian Paradise Park neighborhood, the home beautifully accommodates six guests.

Hilo Shangrila's airy, inviting living room and well-equipped kitchen feature soaring ceilings and a wall of glass doors to maximize ocean views and indoor-outdoor living. The home also boasts a dining space for six in full view of the ocean, an office space and additional sitting area, and a laundry area.

The master bedroom at Hilo Shangrila offers more vaulted ceilings, a king-size bed, a walk-in closet, and an ensuite bath with a walk-in shower. The welcoming guest bedroom also has high ceilings and a queen-size bed, as well as its own full bath just steps away, with a large tub and shower. The third sleeping area is adjacent to the master bedroom and has a pull out sofa.

The saltwater swimming pool has a breathtaking view of the brilliant blue Pacific. Its surrounding lanai provides the opportunity to soak up the warm Hawaiian sun or lounge in the shade. A covered hot tub is the perfect setting for enjoying cooler evenings, and a gas barbecue grill creates another option for meals at home.

This Puna-area home on the Big Island's east side allows easy access to attractions such as black-sand Kehena Beach, Pohoiki (aka Isaac Hale) Beach Park, and the Na Ala Hele hiking trail. In nearby Pahoa town, guests will find excellent seafood, Italian, Mexican and Filipino restaurants, along with a 50's-style coffee shop and a natural foods market. At the farmers' markets, take advantage of the opportunity to sample unusual local fruits (like passion fruit, star fruit, lychee, mango, and papaya); feast on a homemade crepe with bananas, chocolate and cream; try some homemade Thai noodles or salads; find a unique, hand-crafted piece from a Big Island artist; enjoy a soothing professional massage; or experience authentic Hawaiian music. Relaxing Stay

First impression wasn’t great as it was very warm when we walked in but once we got everything opened up it was great. The pool is fantastic and we enjoyed watching the turtles swim in the crashing waves. Also, the mattresses were fantastic. Always looking for a great night sleep on vacation!

Stunning location!!!

Absolutely stunning/beautiful location!!! Right on the ocean!! Very secluded as it is in a neighborhood so plan on being about a half hour out of Hilo. Very clean and organized house, beds were very comfortable, ceiling fans in every room. We also made use of the extra Ohano unit, which had an AC unit & fan. The primary bedroom and 2nd bedroom both had floor AC units which kept the rooms very comfortable. The pool is a salt water pool and very well maintained! We also were able to have a coconut from one of the palm trees. This was my son’s 13th birthday trip and this house allowed us to make so many memories!!!

Most relaxing getaway

We stayed here for two weeks. We were not ready to leave. Beautiful home. Beautiful view. The house is very clean and well stocked for cooking. Comfy furniture inside and out. The hot tub is a bonus. The pool was cool, but I was able to get in 3-4 times. Bring your binoculars. Whale playground just out back. The only problem-any rental we do from now on will pale in comparison.

Beautiful oceanfront home

We really enjoyed this home. It was big enough for our family of 6. Clean & well equipped. The home is in great condition & felt classy. The oceanfront deck, hot tub & pool were awesome.

Love Hilo Shangrila

We absolutely loved our week at Hilo Shangrila! The waterfront location with breathtaking views and watching the sunrise every morning was amazing! The home is very comfortable and nicely decorated. It is on a dead end street in a very quiet neighborhood…we never heard anything but the ocean and the frogs at night. I would absolutely stay there again!!

Loved this property

We loved this property, the views were beautiful (including watching sea turtles playing in the waves) and we used both the pool and hot tub as the weather was rainy. A good location for a day trip to the Volcano National Park.

A beautiful and relaxing home

We really enjoyed our time at this home! It is a well maintained home and property and suited our family of four perfectly! Between the pool over looking the turtle filled ocean and the hot tub my girl’s throughly enjoyed their time while my husband and I could relax to the quiet in the waves from the ocean. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful view

This home has a million dollar view with the pool oceanfront. You can see the neighboring homes but it’s not a noisy neighborhood at all. The home has most all the necessities you’d need for your stay. Beds were comfortable and showers were very good. There is the extra guest house where my 15 and 9 year old stayed and they thought it was great to get their own space. It’s quite a way from Hilo but the view and neighborhood is worth it.

We'll Be Back

This is our second stay, but certainly not our last. We have some very specific "wants" for our Hawaiian holiday. Single story, private pool, oceanfront, doesn't cost us an arm and a leg...and Hilo Shangri La provides all of this. It is a funky, Hawaiian beach house and we love it. Due to airline schedule changes we had to make numerous changes to our reservation and every interaction was positive and fun.

Stunning

Our stay at Hilo Shangrila was everything we were hoping for and then some. The view out back is one that never gets old, and it left us awe-struck every day. Communication was thorough and timely. The home itself was extremely clean and as listed. The pool and hot tub combination was also great and both extremely clean. If you're looking for a peaceful slice of paradise, you won't be disappointed. While I'm not sure if our travels will bring us back to Hilo, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else after our experience here - we're still talking about it even after returning home! Many thanks for making this available for our family to enjoy as a very memorable experience.

Beautiful setting but remote

The house is on an amazing ocean front lot and we loved spending time by the pool. At the end of the street is an amazing area where the water meets the rocks. The neighbors on either side have a lot of deferred maintenance on their properties so you have to be able to line of put blinders on and look straight out to the rocks and ocean. It is quite a drive from the airport so be prepared and stop for groceries as you drive through Hilo. It’s a long way back.

Outstanding views!

Quiet, peaceful surroundings. Outstanding views. Wonderful house with all the amenities. Pool next to the ocean is perfect. Great kitchen and a very relaxing house. Neighborhood is very quiet and safe. Worth every penny! One of the best houses we have rented. Highly recommended!! Five stars!!

Amazing and Magical

This place has a feel of old Hawaii- a drop dead gorgeous piece of property. You look out the windows and see the pool and beyond it is the Pacific Ocean with its nonstop waves. We ate outside at the patio table every evening. I swam in the pool once or twice a day. The house is architecturally interesting and so lovely. It had everything we needed. I am totally flummoxed by the negative review. This place is wonderful. It makes the condo we are now in on the other side of the Big Island disappointing. Thank-you so much.
