The Big House @ Wendover - Historic Home

Summary:

Take a trip back in time at this historic property! The Big House boasts 4 bedrooms, multiple dining areas, a lovely gathering room and stunning mountain views from every window. Once the home of Mary Breckenridge, the founder of Frontier Nursing Service, guests from all over the world have visited here to enjoy a true Appalachian experience. The home is warm, inviting, and provides total relaxation for all who visit us throughout the year. Wendover is the heart of our community!



The Space:

This historic log home is located at Wendover just outside Hyden KY. Once the home of Mary Breckinridge and Frontier Nursing Service. Now, the Big House and three other properties at Wendover are operated by the Leslie County Betterment Foundation and available for nightly rentals.



Guest Access:

Guests will have access to all areas of the house, however, we DO NOT allow guests to use the kitchen. We offer a microwave, coffee maker and full size refrigerator.



Other Things to Note:

We do not allow guests to use the kitchen in the Big House. The fire hazard is too great for our beloved historical home. However, we do offer a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator.

Also, cell service can be a challenge at Wendover especially if you have an out of area provider. The wifi works great and you will be able to make a wifi call.

Lastly, all the bedrooms and the full size bath are upstairs. This home is not easily accessible to anyone who cannot climb stairs.



Interaction with Guests:

I am not at the property daily, however we do have housekeepers that can assist you when they are there. Please call your host if you need anything and she will send a housekeeper.
