Relaxing Stay

Easy walks to local restaurants. The beach was nice. Enjoyed relaxing in the Adirondack chairs/loungers watching the activity on the water and on Sandy Hook’s bay beaches. Centrally located to a variety of things, including taking the Seastreak ferry into Manhattan. Appreciated the available parking for our rental car as grocery stores and such are a bit too far to walk. But it’s worth it to be on the beach. 😀. Thank you Dennis for creating this space.

Classic Beach Cottage

We were looking for the Jersey Shore experience and we found it here! Quiet, private beach. Exceptionally clean and cozy cottage with a beach feel right down to the window boxes with flowers on each cottage! Friendly neighbors! Walking distance to restaurants and ferry to NYC. Laundry services and vending machines. We BBQ’d one night and the grills were in good working order. Host was very accessible with quick replies to our questions. Perfect get away! Will highly recommend!! Thanks Dennis we had a great time!

Perfect week on the water!

We had the most wonderful week at the Sandy Hook Beach Cottages. The cottage itself was clean and charming. Opening the door and walking down to the private beach was magical. Location was perfect for walking to shops and restaurants. Dennis was available for any questions and incredibly welcoming. We can’t wait to bring our little family back again for many future vacations!

Location Location Location

If you want walking access to beach, great restaurants, bars, and coffee shops, this is your place. Super clean. Host was on-site almost daily to make sure everything was as advertised. Would definitely stay there again. Thx Dennis!

Jersey Shore escape

I can’t say enough good things about this place. The location is perfect…quiet neighbors, river front with an adorable beach for hermit crab hunting, close to the restaurants of the Highlands, and a quick drive over to Sandy Hook. This is a great home base to explore the Jersey Shore or just to sit and enjoy the view. Parking is easy. The hosts are amazing! Everyday they were working around the property and always had a kind word. Would definitely stay here again!

Adorable cabin on the bay!

Clean, quiet, friendly. Perfectly suited my needs. Great location! I will definitely stay again when the need arises. I stayed in "B". There is a Kuerig machine supplied, I prefer a drip coffee maker so I ended up going to the bakery on Bay for morning coffee and that worked out just fine (try the crumb cake!). I also would appreciate a curtain over the blinds or a different type of blind in the back bedroom as the neighbor has a floodlight that kept the room kind of bright all night. These are two nit-picky things and I am confident if I had slowed down long enough ( I had a very busy vacation) to mention them to Dennis or Jennifer they would have accommodated my preferences! Also, an above and beyond thing I noticed- the beach is kept tidy from seaweed, etc that just made it extra nice. I left behind some beach buckets and shovels, hopefully, they will be kept around for others to use when visiting with children. Several of my family members that live in the area stopped by during my stay and commented on what a nice place this is and called it a "hidden gem". I couldn't agree more.

Highlands cottage by the bay

The property is immaculate. The hosts are helpful. The cottages are sweet if not a bit cramped. The are fine for 2 people, but anything else is a bit squishy. The kitchen isn't suited for real cooking, but the BBQ are good and utensils provided..

Perfect vacation home!

My heart is full after our stay! The cottage is cozy, quiet and wonderful, and our hosts were incredibly kind and always there when you needed them! I can't wait to go back to the beach to stay with them next year! You really felt like part of a little beach community here! I can not recommend them enough!

Delightful beach vacay, delightful folks

Cottage and property was perfect for us. Bay beach and water view was soul soothing. Safety/privacy: Excellent. We had 2 young kids (ages 5 & 7). Adults were thoroughly able to enjoy ourselves bc the kids could explore, eat at the picnic tables, play on the beach, and run back to the cottage for bathrm breaks, and I could see them very easily with the wide-open property plan. Strangers could not see my kids from the street and kids were not in danger of wandering out into the street as the fun common areas are set back privately from the street. Outdoors: Private beach was awesome. Everything was clean, well maintained, plentiful colorful adirondack seating, picnic tables, gas grills, storage for guest's personal bicycles, beach toys, floaties, umbrellas, chairs. View was beautiful, and we could see across to Sandy Hook. The sky view was also amazing for stargazing and one of the other guests even brought their telescope. Cottage interiors: Clean, well maintained, with welcoming beach decor. AC kept us cool. Microwave, keurig coffee maker, gas range, oven with broiler, top freezer-fridge made cooking/eating-in very easy. Really valuable for us, bc kids still can't get the vax. Bathroom is clean, snug, compact, with shower no tub. Parking: provided less than 1/2 block away. My car was safe from street traffic. Valuable, as beach street parking is tight. Location: Fabulous. Walking distance to both casual and upscale waterfront restaurants, convenience stores, and biking distance to the start of the bike path which fronts the water. Super close drive or long bike ride to Sandy Hook Beach, Lighthouse, and Fort Hancock. Kids did a great Junior National Park Ranger Osprey tour. Ferry to NYC was in walking distance (although parking is free there)! So easy to spend the morning in NYC for siteseeing, and back by afternoon to the beach. Owners: Delightful kind family. Onsite, very accommodating and friendly. Very responsive communications before we arrived, and easy going and accessable during our stay. We felt well cared for. If they weren't booked solid, we would have asked to extend our stay. Very enjoyable experience. We'll be back.

Best Hidden Secret in Highlands

From the moment we arrived Jenniffer and Dennis made us feel so welcomed into the little beach side community. The cottages are spotless and supplied with all of your cooking and essential needs. Steps away from the perfect little beach with a courtyard that’s perfect for gathering and playing, bubbles, riding scooters, and more. My daughter (9) had a blast and loved the freedom to go back and forth from the cottage to the beach. By the time we left after our week stay we felt more like we were leaving a second home than a vacation spot. It’s safe to say we will be returning next year! Highly recommend. Jenniffer and Dennis are outstanding hosts!

Perfect Family Get Away

We stumbled upon this gem at the last minute when we were looking to get away at the last minute to the beach as a family of 4 for vacation. We were greeted with smiles and so much help! It is a little community and is so wonderful! Our kids loved being here and it is so quaint and a little piece of heaven in a quiet place. Our kids are 6 and 9 and they were safe and happy and it was plenty enough room to live and play. We cooked for almost every meal and the kitchen was perfect! We were within walking distance of many places, a ferry ride, or a quick drive or bike ride away from beaches and beautiful bike trails! It was difficult for us to leave as it became a home away from home and we all made many friendships with all the renters and owners and families! I would recommend 10 out of 10 if you want a family get away!

Hooked on “Happiness”

A prefect getaway with my husband and wheelchair bound son. Jennifer and Dennis are absolutely great hosts that were very attentive and kind. The cottage is the right size of comfort with a quiet and attractive grounds to sit outside, walk down the path to eat outdoors and take early morning strolls along the beach. Easy assess to water attractions and the private beach is great for kids. The entire premise is well maintained and sparkling clean. Hope to go back again and definitely recommend it to everyone.

Shore House Review

I rented this property as a getaway vacation for myself, with the intention of having friends and family stay as guests. This property met all of my needs. I enjoyed the private beach on the property, had a few bonfires on the beach, while also enjoying the grilling and picnic table amenities. The property owner Dennis was kind and even helped me to unload my car upon arrival. Dennis is very attentive and is constantly working towards improving and upgrading the status of the beach bungalows. The caretakers Rueben and Kim were also exceptionally kind towards me- Kim even offered me delicious dinners which I took her up on several times. I would definitely come back here again! I had guests ranging in ages of 4- 65 years old, and all of my guests enjoyed their stay, as well as the property and its location. I was very pleased with my month long stay and experience here at the beach cottages. Even though I came as a single person, I quickly made friends with the neighbors and their children. Everyone on the premises is kind, and the place has a real "family feel". I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a family getaway or just a place to unwind by themselves. Thank you for everything Dennis, Kim and Rueben! I hope to be back there sooner than later! :) Best, Mia D.

Pretty bungalows but lonely

The bungalows were very pretty, freshly done, very nicely decorated but very small, which would have been ok if there were things to do or people to associate with. While their website stated no vacancies for the time frame that I was going to be there, upon arrival, there were no other vacationers except the care takers and one year round tenant. Having a 10 year old with. No one else to play with was a. It brutal. States there is WiFi, but not available in our cabin, states cable, but that means only 5 basic channels, you could not use your own private Netflix account, so we were stranded sort of during extremely hot humid days...not wanting to go outside but staying inside meant staring at the walls. Bathroom was not clean, but they offered to clean it, they stated it should have been clean as. NO one was in the cottage for 3 weeks but there was garbage under bunk beds..and in bathroom. As previously noted, you must bring every spice, salt pepper, oil, everything. The bungalow slept 5 so there were 5 plates 5 cups, 5 forks etc...no information on places to eat in the neighborhood, just a dive Chinese menu and a Italian restaurant. It would have been nice to have a small book, where maybe guests could leave dinner suggestions, or places to go and see... the care takers offered very little conversation, exceptto tell us about their medical issues..swimming was ok, it remember you are actually right beside the dock, so it can be a bit dirty, and there was only 1 chair to sit on with no cushion...we were told we could unload in driveway. It they kept the driveway clear so kids could play, the exception to that was the caretakers car and their friends from across the street.....it would be perfect for family reunions, everyone renting a bungalow...and maybe some activities..sunrise yoga, s’mores nights, I sound like I am complaining but if I had known no one else would have been there and my child could not play with anyone, we would not have booked...on the flirt side if I personally wanted a getaway, all alone, with no one to bother me in solitude ..then this is perfect.
