"This was a really special stay. The room was comfortable, clean and airy. We had lovely views of the mountain side. The staff were very welcoming and the meals were delicious. We had breakfast each day in the restaurant and there was plenty of choice of both hot and cold breakfasts. We had dinner on the first night and I had the kamb. "It's a lovely guesthouse in a former school building, with a small room but a comfortable common area and a well stocked kitchen. Beautiful views of the fjord. The area is a bit isolated--just a tiny village, and it takes over an hour to get there from the main road by a steep winding dirt road. We hiked up the hill, but the trail isn't well maintained. It's a great place for peace and quiet, but not as a base for exploring the eastern fjords."

"Rather than stay in Egilsstadir, stay a bit outside of it. Direct access to the lake and, not mentioned in their promos, their own small waterfall!! Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful."

"What a beautiful setting at Brunnholl. I have never had a view of a glacier from my window ! Then you can observe the numerous cows on the property. Clean rooms and environment. "

"We loved our stay. It is in a quiet and remote area with a view that absolutely could not be beat. I wish we would have had more time here for the view alone. The place was clean, easy to access, with a lovely bathroom. Bonus points as well for the adorable and totally sweet yellow lab we met on the property. 5 starts for him alone. Would definitely come stay here again. The only thing I would advise for anyone staying for the first time is to plan ahead for food as options in the area are...

"We stayed for one night at Hali Country Hotel and had a very pleasant experience. Although we arrived after the official check-in time, we received helpful and flexible assistance over the phone to locate our room key, everything went smoothly. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable for two people. The shower had a bit of low water pressure, but it didn’t significantly affect our stay. "Hrafnavellir Guest House was one of the highlights of my trip! Great location - isolated enough for a quiet retreat yet accessible to what Iceland’s South Coast has to offer. The breakfast was specially prepared with traditional Icelandic items. I stayed for the traditional dinner too and encourage you to do the same! The owners are charming and very helpful. 10 stars!"
