"Bit dated"

"The breakfast buffet was excellent although the hot buffet would benefit from closed containers as the food soon became cold from the open ones. The rooms were well heated and ventilated. All the staff were excellent and very dog friendly. My only complaint was although I had asked for a ground floor room due to problems with my knees this was not available and I had to manage the stairs which was difficult. On the whole à very pleasant break"

"Staff on front desk & restaurant were lovely; neither tv in our room worked & when asked housekeeping if anyone could help she got another 2 of her team to come check then neither of them could help us"

"We had cabin 1 and it was great. Hot tub, wood, everything was lovely and well thought out. Everything you need was there"

"Mostly it was fine. Food and drinks are expensive though. The place is a bit like a rabbit warren so it could do with a few more signs around both to and from reception to the rooms. Especially on both sides of the door near the table tennis. The communal spa changing rooms are not everyone's 'cup of tea' It would appear that the reception computer could do with an update as it took some time to recognize our booking NB The hotel is on the main A591 at the Cockermouth turning. "A1. Very good."

"Of course the setting is the main attraction. The hotel is is a beautiful, grand, rural home, set by the lake, so its location and views are exceptional. The hotel is a bit quirky and creaky as you would expect but some areas are tired and not as clean as they could be, sadly. The staff were polite and efficent enough but not especially engaging. That said we didnt really need anything, so our interactions were limited"

"A lovely hotel which we will use again when visiting the Lake District. The staff are super friendly and helpful, especially Michael, who was always ready with recommendations and advice. The room itself was very clean and comfortable, with a comfortable supportive bed for a great nights sleep after a days walking. Breakfast time was spectacular even before you sat down, with magical views from the breakfast room over to the misty hills in the distance. The breakfasts themselves were equally...

"I chose a more budget room, so my view wasnt very nice and overlooked by other rooms (the garden is lovely so maybe consider upgrading to a garden view). However, the room was large, well maintained and I didnt notice any significant cleanliness issues. Bathroom had plenty of surface space for toiletries. The car park can get quite full if an event is on. Food and drinks I thought a little pricey (large glass of wine and a burger £37). Pool was nice and lots of gym equipment."

"Clean rooms Staff friendly and welcoming Breakfast was really good for price Lots of parking spaces"

"Location was fantastic, staff I came into contact with were very pleasant and helpful. Room was ideal for what I wanted"

"Lovely one night stay at the hotel. Really impressed with the room, lovely view and loved that we had a bath too. The grounds around the property are stunning. The view from breakfast was delightful. Parking was a squeeze, we were lucky to get a space. Would have preferred if the bar/lounge stayed open for the evening but other than that a great stay!"

"Towels have strange smell, linens are clean but the duvet itself has some black molds to it. Staff are very friendly though. Very helpful and answers all questions promptly. Parking is also very easy. Just front of the hotel and there are shops open 24/7."

"This has to be the craziest room I've ever stayed in, in a good way. The floors were sloped the furniture was sloping in line with the floors. Bed comfy amd bathroom was nice and clean. If you are after a quirky stay then this place is for you."

"Booked this last minute as a 1st stop on a trip around the lakes area, My goodness, I know they say you get what you pay for, but you don't expect to see insects crawling in your bed or on the bedside tables!!!. Asked to be moved immediately which in fairness they did move us to a room on the 1st floor which was adequate but still dirty carpet, tired looking etc Whole place needs a refurb, which I doubt Best Western will be doing anytime soon, and as such the price reflects the condition of...
