"It is a lovely hotel. The room was new and well-appointed with some of the old bank building charm. It's upscale while being quaint and comfortable. We were on the 4th floor. The room had amazing upper windows. Very cool! The staff was lovely. Very accommodating and friendly. The location is ideal, right in the middle of town. We were very happy to stumble upon the Promissory Hotel!"

"I do not suggest this hotel. We chose it for the price since the others in the area wanted $300+ (high for a quick stay to break up a drive) and per usual, you get what you pay for. It was dirty, run-down, odd characters hung around the lobby, we turned on the water in the sink and the pipe below burst out water all over the carpet. Look for newer hotels if staying in the Roanoke, VA area. "

"It's a beautiful space. The host was super helpful. Check in and check out was easy. The location is great. We visited several local restaurants and the transportation museum because of the informational packet within the unit. We would definitely stay again and recommend this place to our friends and family."

"Stayed 1 night, May 16 to morning of May 17, 2026. Unfortunately I can't give a good review due to the event that occurred. At 7:00 a.m. on a Sunday the fire alarm went off disturbing all guests in the building. Apparently, according to hotel staff, there was some condition in the boiler room that caused the alarm to go off. The fire department came and did their investigation. No apparent fire deterant was used. The alarm was still going on every few minutes, even after the fire trucks...
