All I can say is it was a bed for the 2 night stay....we were expecting basic but this was very very basic...no staff on duty once we were signed in...we never saw a soul again...a kettle and cups were in the room plus tea bags and coffee sachets....no toiletries in the bath room no mirror anywhere in the room..The bedding was clean..but the room was grubby and old.. .went to visit relations in Colchester for the weekend ....and only came back here to sleep :(

Very welcoming i thought it migrt of been looked at funny as i have been befor at another pub hotel but all good all round clean tidy frindly lot definitely be going again

Ok for a simple stay

The place opens at 4pm which is really late. They didn't arrive till 4.20 so we we were late checking in and had to leave right away to go to an event. The man was nice though and made us feel welcome. Free wifi that works well and the room was clean. Although no soap of any kind to wash hands or to shower with which was a shame. The staff are also not around in the morning so any help etc you might need isn't available. Not a typical B&B I would say. The outside of the B&B looks a bit abandoned and with it being closed for 20 extra minutes we were beginning to think it was! All in all, if you're just after a bed to sleep in and nothing more it was perfectly adequate.

We had to check out very early in the morning and they didn’t want to store our baggage for a couple hours. This had never happened to us in any hotel.

Would not stay there again

I got locked out and was stuck outside on my own for an hour before I managed to wake one of the other guests to let me in. They should tell all their guests to remember not to lock the door. I waited for half an hour the next morning trying to speak to someone about it but there was no one to be seen

Does the job

Don't be put off by bad reviews, if you are looking for a quick stop off this is the place for you. Does what is needed, although small, very clean. bathroom.

Very brief as we only needed a couple of beds for the night. Pub/Hotel was cosy and the room was nice. The beds and pillows weren't very comfy though.

Extremely noisy hotel. We were on ground floor right next to the bar where there was a party. We had to move people out of the way who were lying on the floor to get into our room. The walls were vibrating and people went outside the front door for a cigarette. Right outside our window. The room stank of cigarettes. There was coffee , but no kettle. Didn’t sleep a wink. Will never stay again. Poor advert for Expedia.

Very noisy

The room was relatively cheap so I was expecting something basic. What I wasn't expecting was the incredible levels of noise from the road and the rail. I just could not sleep till I was so tired I passed out. Also, it was not the cleanest hotel room I've seen.

Appalling - absolutely no work ethic.

I contacted the hotel to let them know in advance that I would be checking in late, they said that nobody could stay later than 10pm and we were expecting to arrive at 10:15. We asked kindly if someone could stay later than 10pm to check us in and they refused to do so despite us asking several times. The owner of the lodging gave us an option to pay £50 extra and stay in another one of his hotels, but later retracted the offer and suggested that we cancelled our stay. He stated that we would receive a full refund within 30 days, but no refund was issued according to an invoice sent to me via email. I was given the impression that they couldn't be bothered, and were not even willing to stay an extra 15 minutes, despite me stating that we would be only 10-15 minutes late. - Awful customer service, no assistance given to us and not even a refund despite being offered one. If I could rate 0/10 - I would.

Was advertised as a B & B but no breakfast. Had to walk to a cafe to get a cup of tea in the morning. No where to hang clothes. No soap in the bathroom. It said to arrive at 2pm. Arrived at 3.20pm couldn’t get in as it doesn’t open until 4pm. I am disabled and need hand rails to climb stairs. Had to go up 3 flight of stairs, some with no hand rails. Was given a key to the front door as the barmaid locked up at 10pm and no one available in the morning to answer any questions. Did not see any staff until 4pm. On a positive note, the barmaid was friendly and helpful when she was there.

Not a hotel for the disabled

I asked in my original booking request for a wheelchair-accessible room. I was very surprised to receive a phone call when I was within minutes of arriving at the hotel to say they had only just received this message and that the rooms they had reserved for me were upstairs. I did manage to scramble up two short flights of stairs to get to my bed but it wasn't easy and if I had any been any more disabled it would have been impossible. Despite branding themselves as a B&bB they told me they didn't do food, either for dinner or for breakfast the next day. Luckily there was a Chinese restaurant just across the road where we could get some dinner. The light switches were awkwardly placed and the lack of soap or any other "goodies" in the room made the stay difficult. Yes, there was a notice saying we could request these things at reception, but there was no way I go down up those stairs any more than I had to.
